Keeping the bugs away

My daughter has a really severe reaction to bug bites. I need help! What are your best ways to keep the bugs from your kids (aside from staying inside which isn't a bad option in the south in summer)?

Do you use bug spray? We have the Family Off, which has a really low percentage of deet in it. It seems to work well. I've also heard that fabric softener sheets work, if you rub them on your skin. I've never tried it on my daughter though.

I have also heard keeping dryer sheets in your pockets also works- haven't personally tried it, but have heard this works from more than one reputable source!

I used to have severe reactions when I was a kid so hopefully she'll outgrow it! But we use the family Skintastic as well.
