Babysitters, Pay what?
I am not sure if we have had a post about this or not, but I had a friend email me today asking about what they should pay a babysitter. I just never know how to answer this question. I am lucky that I have very rarely had to pay a babysitter. So, my question is.... What do you all think is a fair and reasonable rate to pay a babysitter? Obviously I know that the more kids you have the more you pay, but what is the average per kid, etc?

My personal feeling is I won't pay less than $6 an hour and of course, that number would increase as I have more children. I was always paid really well to babysit so the thought of paying only a few dollars seems weird to me.
Here is the link to a past post about babysitting rates.

I pay depending on how old the babysitter is. We had a girl babysit that had just graduated high school and getting ready to leave for college, so we paid her more ($7/ph) than the junior in high school ($5/ph).
I pay around $5 an hour for one child, and more than than if it's only for a couple of hours.
We pay about $2 per kid per hour, but not so much when most of the babysitting is while they are asleep. $5/hr is enough for sitting around on the couch and watching movies while the kiddos sleep.
I ask the babysitter their rate.
If they will not specify...
I pay teenagers $8/hr with a tip and adults $12-$16/hr. with a tip, and reimbursement for snacks my kids talked them into buying or transportation.
I pay this whether it is for 1 or both of my kids.
I also pay up to double that rate if I have booked them last minute.
I was always paid really well when I was younger. I usually got $10 an hour. But I would probably recommend setting an amount per kid which I would say would be about $3 an hour. I agree with the above though. If it is a 12 year old babysittting I would pay just the $3 an hour for one kid if it was a high schooler I would probably pay $5 for one kid.
