Black Friday

I participated in Black Friday for the first time last year. I just went out for a few hours in the afternoon. For those of you more experienced, I wondered what tips you have for being prepared for the big day. Where can your preview deals in advance?

it's either the Sunday paper or Thursday paper. Can't remember. my brother and his wife spend all Thanksgiving evening scouring it and making a plan! They plan out what their priorities are based on what's going on sale and line up in the wee hours of the morning and run around stores. Yes, they've even fought with other customers over items!! :)

I went with them one year and it was overwhelming and I bailed at about 9am after two hours in the Best Buy checkout line!

Well, you can see many black friday ads online already- if you go to google and type in (for example) Meijer Black friday ad, then different black friday sites pop up with the ad. Not all are posted, but many are. Also the Thursday paper (atleast here) is enormous, stuffed full of all the ads. What me and my family does is after we eat, we all sit in the living room with our own papers and go through the ads and decide what stores we would like to hit and at what times. Then we discuss and if both my aunt and I want something at Target, just one of us will go and get the stuff so the other can hit another store we might want something from. We trade up the purchases and money after we are all done shopping, usually over a fun lunch together. Good luck and have fun! Oh, and if at all possible, avoid Best Buy- that really is the worst store on black friday.

Oh Lindsay, Lindsay, Lindsay...the first problem with what you said is that you went out in the AFTERNOON. To get the best deals, you must start in the morning, very early in the morning. :) Most of the ads are already online. Just type in Black Friday ads in google, and it'll take you to several sites.

Whether you look online, or wait for the paper, I recommend making a list before you go, with what deals are at each store. That way you won't get sucked into buying a bunch of stuff NOT on your list, just because it's a good deal. I've done that before, and ended up with lots of returns when I realized how overbudget I was!

We're starting at Kohl's at 4 am for $20 boots that are normally $60-70, then it's off to Sears at 5am for something my Mom needs, and then Target at 6 am for some GREAT deals on new release DVD's. (101 Dalmations and Sleeping Beauty are $11.88, plus a bunch of adult Movies are like $6 and cheaper!)

Whew, that's all! Can't wait!

Steph, I think it's fun that you do all that and get great deals, but I also think you are nuts! I guess I've never really gotten into the Black Friday thing.

My husband is the one who gets excited over Black Friday! And he primarily aims for Best Buy, waking up at like 3:30 am or something. He justifies his lunacy by saying that it's the only day all year that he goes shopping, so he wants to make it good!
