Home Preschool

Has anyone ever done a home preschool with their kids? A few moms from church and I are going to start one up this fall, but we're debating about cirriculum. We are leaning heavily toward Joy School found at www.valuesparenting.com but I wanted to know what others have done or if there are any other options for lesson plans, etc. out there.

Thanks!

We did a Preschool co-op in our ward. We followed the ABC idea, each week was a letter, with an activity using that letter. It was a lot of fun, good luck.

We are going to start a rotation. I am leaning toward the ABC idea too. But I also like the idea of just random themes or picking a main project of study and working skills into it. For example your main focus could be on plants and each week you could do activities about plants but you can include skills like cutting, reading, writing, motor skills etc into many activities. Then have a final outcome like planting a flower and watching it grow. Also you could take a field trip to a flower shop, etc. There are lots of project topics and ways to do it. It is really fun to do though.

We're working on getting a group together as well and planning on using the ABC idea- so a letter a week, a colour and number focus for each month. We figure that's a good place to start with a group of 2/3 year olds.

We did one last year, and are planning on continuing it this year as well. Each week we focused on a letter, and then either a shape, color, or number to go with it. Sometimes we did field trips to places like the horse barns at MSU, and around holidays we did fun activities centered around that. It's a lot of fun! Let me know if you want more ideas!

I was part of one when we lived in Minneapolis and am hoping to start one here soon because the mother's day out in the south is expensive!!
The other moms in the group wanted to follow a curriculum like Mother Goose or Joy School and so when it was their weeks, they did and when the "poor" moms took a turn, we just did it ABC sesame street style focusing on a letter, shape, color, season, etc. I think the beauty of it is that you can make it as inexpensive/expensive, easy/hard, complicated/simple as you want it to be!
Have fun!
