Wednesday Weekly

How often do you write in your journal? Do you have a journal?

I came across this quote today from Gordon B. Hinckley.

"To you women of today, who are old or young, may I suggest that you write, that you keep journals, that you express your thoughts on paper. Writing is a great discipline. It is a tremendous effort. It will assist you in various ways, and you will bless the lives of many-now and in years to come, as you put on paper some of your experiences and some of your musings."

Journal writing has not happened for me since I was at MSU and even then I hardly wrote anything! I am so bad at it! It is on my lists of goals to start and continue. I have one goal to complete before I start this one. First regular temple attendance, then regular journal writing. Now that I have family scripture study, FHE, personal scripture study, Couples scripture study, couple prayer, personal prayers down I am working on temple attendance and then journal writing. What should I do after those two are complete?

I'll admit that I use my blog more for journaling these days, at least to record what's going on in our lives. I do write in my personal journal when I'm going through a trial, have a spiritual experience, or times like that where I want to record private feelings.

Twice a month. Used to be twice a year.

I don't do too well writing in my own journal, but I have made a commitment to try and write once a week in a book I have for MM. I guess it's like a journal, but it describes the joys and struggles I have had parenting and all the wonderful things she did in the week. Nothing long, just enough to get something down.

I've always been big on writing in journals. I started when I turned 8 and I have 10ish journals from that time on. Then I learned about blogging... since I started my blog I haven't really written in journals, though I still get the urge sometimes... so the entries are really sparatic. But I feel that writing on my blog is enough- I'm keeping a much more detailed record of our family on there than I ever did in my journal, even when I was writing every day.
