Neti Pot

Does anyone have a neti pot? Where did you buy it.? My Hub and I are going to Wal-Mart tomorrow to see if they have one. Has it helped you? Do you use it every day, every once in a while or just while you are sick? What "recipe" do you use for it? I looked online and the "recipe" I thought sounded best was warm water, un-iodized salt (I think) and baking soda.

Where's Kage when we need her? She's an expert with this! that's the exact recipe you use! (pickling or canning salt works best because it's pure) baking soda (for sanitation) and water. Keeping it warm makes it feel less weird going up your nose!!! Some people use it all the time and some people only when they're sick/haivng allergy problems. I use a bulb syringe (like you use to get your baby's boogers) with the same "recipe" and that works just as well for me. I use it when it's dry (the salt is actually very moisturizing), when I'm having a rough voice, or when I'm having chronic post-nasal drip/cough/cold/etc. What I have foudn is that it's a miracle cure for some and ho hum for others. But it's definitely worth a try!

My hubby has one and used it one year when he had a bad cold/flu during the Christmas concert season. It got him through all that singing (barely). He kept it but hasn't used it since. His chemo gives him really dry sinuses, I wonder if he should try it. Thanks for this post, I'll recommend it to him.

I heart netipots. There is also something called Sinucleanse I think, that is more of a sprayer that you are more likely to find at Walmart. I have never tried, but that's because it didn't look as appealing. The formula is like 1 teaspoon in 8 oz, and I am pretty sure it has to be non iodized salt. You can buy the salt packs Nasaline is a brand, but it's way more expensive than just doing your own formula, and yes, as warm as your body....not hotter, that will burn, and not colder, it's just uncomfortable.

Also, I use it everyday if I have spent time outside near foliage, and then also everyday if I am sick....this winter I haven't used it much, but should b/c the heat in my apt. is so dry...but I get lazy. I REALLY love them though. They provide more oxygen to your brain, which all of us mothers need

I got one in California at a health food store because I'm a nursing mom and needed something to fight that holiday congestion, and it was awesome. And I'm a huge fan that it is totally non-medicinal. Kosher salt works great.
Oh, and it freaked my husband out, but I'm over that. I never felt like I was drowning or anything, it went straight through the sinuses!
