These is My Words Revisited...Again!

I probably shouldn't re-repost a discussion on this book but I have to give props to Tiffany for recommending this book!!  I actually checked it out twice but kept getting side-tracked on my reading.  This time, I read it in 3 days, it was so wonderful!!! I have to echo everything Claire said. It was wonderful and if you were a slacker like me, you should still read it!

I reminded me of the Diary of Mattie Spenser by Sandra Dallas (who also wrote the Persian Pickle Club) and reminded me as well how much I love historical fiction!!

I loved Sarah's development and growth as a character. I was so amazed at how hard she was on herself when I could just see the strength and amazing endurance that she had. She went through so much and was so brave, yet she considered herself unloveable and unworthy.

I bawled my eyes out (with my husband repeatedly asking me what's wrong!) during especially the last part because I knew what was going to happen. I loved when she said her husband was two men. Jack the soldier and Jack the father/husband. She had such a hard time accepting the soldier side and near the end, she talked about how she needed both of them. So true for all of us!

I loved the things she did for herself-to make herself better and stronger. She dragged books across the desert because she knew it was important and she took the education test to prove to herself that she could. She started the soap business and was so smart with the ranch that once again, it was amazing to see how hard she was on herself.

It says it was based on her actual ancestors. Anyone know how much was true or was it just a bunch of genealogical legends that she turned into an amazing story???

I'm glad that you liked it. The book was a happy surprise for me too b/c I LOVED it. It instantly became one of my favorite books. I love Captain Jack Elliot. :) And I loved Sarah's character. It was great. :)

This was a GREAT book! Linz has already heard me say this, but I kept thinking--my husband loves me like Captain Elliot loved Sarah! I really enjoyed it, and it made me grateful to live in these days instead!!

This is definitely on my list of favourite books. I saw it at Costco the other day and next time I'm there, I intend to buy it (if they still have it)
