Bath Time Blues

My boys are 2 and 1. They love the bath but they splash a lot! I don't mind and I expect some splashing but I really dislike them splashing so much that the floor gets all wet. I've told them to stop, I've taken toys away and we've ended bath time early but it still continues. How do you deal with splashers? Also, what do your little ones do in the tub? My boys have a bunch of little rubber duckies, some cups, a fish and submarine that swim around but they seem to be really bored with all of these.

We let our little girl have some splash time in the tub. We hold one of our giant "bath sheets" up so it covers the span of the tub and then we let her splash. So far it has worked wonderfully to catch the splashes. She enjoys it and it keeps the floor dry.

As for fun in the tub- I just got her 2 sets of foam ABCs. {I got 2 so she would be able to spell her name out!} They were less than $3 a set at KB Toys going out of business sale. We also have foam soap and bath crayons. Oh, and a tub hoop for some bath time basketball! :D Bath time is definitely Cecelia's favourite time of day.

We've been through phases where it's get in, get clean, and get out and it lasts a short time. But sometimes they just seem to be having fun so they are in there a long time. My Dad gave us some shapeable foam soap for Christmas and that was fun. We also have letters and numbers and sometimes we throw in plastic play food in addition to the more conventional bath toys.

When I just had one child, we used to sing songs a lot in the tub. She would stop what she was doing and listen intently or try singing along.

To mix up the toy situation, I usually let my son bring some non-bathtub toys in with him. That seems to make him happy and lets him play with them in a different setting. As far as the splashing, I just put towels down on the floor because there doesn't seem to be a way out of it!

spray bottles, squirt guns, and a big tub keep my son occupied!

The bath crayons might be a nice switch to distract them from splashing. Although, it creates a different kind of mess...
