Stress

What are some ways to lower stress? I have been really sick due to stress and even when I don't feel stressed I still have been sick because it's always there in the back of my head. Any suggestions?

The thing that works best for me is exercise. Whenever I am stressed, a good run helps to clear my head.

Shopping!! Ok- retail therapy is an easy way to get into some trouble, so ignore that suggestion MOST of the time. But every once in awhile... :D

One of my favourite stress relievers is listening to Hypnobirthing CDs. They are SO relaxing. Its a little weird to listen when not pregnant, but there is something soothing about the woman's voice. Maybe find a relaxing CD... I actually have a classical violin CD that makes me feel as relaxed as Hypnobirthing does. Put it in a CD player with headphones to block out other noise, then lay down and close your eyes. Focus on the sound of the music and the way it makes you feel. Then envision your stresses leaving your body. Ahh... I feel relaxed just typing about it. Hope you find something that helps. Another suggestion- run away and visit Claire. Ok- once again, maybe not constructive, but I would enjoy it!

This is Tiffany's husband, who happened to see this post on her google reader. I'm halfway through Dale Carnegie's "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" book. I recommend it. Find it here.

Pray. Ask the Lord to help you. Try whatever method you think will work for you and the Lord will strengthen you. Look in the scriptures to read about the things you are stressed about. The scriptures really do have all the answers. It may not be an obvious one but everything we deal with is in the scriptures. Try it.

Yoga is awesome. Helps you focus, and therefore let go of the unimportant stuff, and it's easier to prioritize. For me, anyway. :)

I love all of these suggestions and just want to put another plug into prayer and scripture studying/pondering. I would add to that keeping a gratitude journal. Get a small notebook (small so you don't feel overwhelmed) and then write in it everyday. Just think about all that you are thankful for and write it down. Sister Marjorie Hinckley said once that if you can't think of anything start with your toothbrush and go from there. I really believe in the power of positive thinking and it is hard to not be positive when you are counting your blessings.

Even if you have a hard time exercising, you should really try even a 15 or 20 min walk outside in the fresh air. Whether I'm walking or running, I love being able to put on my ipod and get away and have some ME time for a few min. Important for every busy Mom!
