So it totally doesn't matter, but I think it's fun to hear what wards give to the women on Mother's Day. My ward gave out a handful of Lindt truffles and Ghirardelli chocolates wrapped in cellophane with a quote from President Monson. Definitely had a woman's touch, though I could be wrong about that. Maybe it was all created by the brethren?
What did your ward give out?

We got the DVD "On The Lord's Errand: The Story of Thomas S Monson" and a giant Hershey bar... mine is a Symphony bar, still sitting untouched in my fridge. It was tied with tuelle in a pretty bow. I'm pretty sure our Bishop's wife put them all together.
Wow! A DVD? I love that video!
We got a little plant in a little pot. The brethern also took over primary so the sisters could go to R.S. (though I hear that's a no no from the primary gen. board....)
My mom's ward got chocolate dipped strawberries. I understand the bishopric members dipped every single one...nice!
a marigold in a Styrofoam cup. I'm feeling jipped!
i was like, "Hey staci--my mom did too!" and then I remembered that they're in the same ward. :) Anyway, we got three lindor truffles. They were good, but I think its lame b/c they make the YW do it in our ward. I think that the YM or at least someone in the priesthood should do it b/c the YW are future mothers. :)
On Father's Day we give all of the dads mini pies that the RS sisters divvy out to make and it is the BEST tradition ever. Although it always makes us feel a little jipped on mother's day b/c we don't get a pie... :)
I'm pretty sure our ward has no budget; they had 20 men from EQ and High Priests (including my husband) make batches of cookies, and that's what we were given.
What our ward started doing a few years ago- which are a HUGE hit- is candy filled lai's. You take a long (maybe 5 feet) piece of plastic wrap and lay it out on a table and twist a mini candy bar in it about every 2 inches. We wrap some ribbon around the ends and they look so darling and the women love wearing them around church making the kids and men drool over the candy!!
oh, and the young men and women put them together as the mutual activity the week before Mother's Day.
We always get some kind of Bath and Body lotion - probably because we have an outlet just down the road. This year it was the "Energize" lotion.
We got a single stem carnation. My two year old loved it so I gave it to him. I'm not big on flowers.
For mothers day when I was young I remember the bishopric having mothers stand if they just had a baby or if they have one, two or three on a mission, or have all the grandmothers stand, etc. I thought that was fun. Each time someone stood they got a treat but I guess that could make the women who don't have children feel bad but I thought it was fun anyway! Maybe they gave something to all the women when leaving sacrament...I don't remember I was little.
We got a candy bar with a ribbon tied around it. In the past we have also got lotion from bath/body works... a small trial size from the local outlet.
All the women got a rose...and the only women who still had their roses by the end of church were those without kids. The roses were all being clutched by the kids within two minutes! We need to move to a ward that gave chocolate. Linz, what ward are you in? :)
a small plant, and then in RS they gave chocolate dipped strawberries and pretzels. The men took over primary for us too, I wonder why that's a no no?
My ward gave away tomato plants and we are not talking about the little puny ones either. They were tall and beautiful. (Of course I feel that way because I was the one who had to go out and buy them all and then cut them apart in their plastic trays.) Why the priesthood isn't in charge I have no idea. For some reason the activities committee was the ones who had to get them and since I am the chair I was stuck with it. Don't get me wrong I wasn't super mad that I had to be the one to organize everything because this way I knew the sister were going to get an awesome plant, I just thought the brethern would do it.
The reason we did Tomato plants this year is because our Bishop wants to promote people starting their own gardens. (I do wish we got chocolate though :))
Kristi, I like your Bishops idea!
I was at my Mom's ward. There is a lady that used to own a chocolate store called the chocolate moose. I worked there in high school. for quite a few years now she has done mothers day and fathers day. She makes chocolate suckers or little candies. They are so yummy! It made me happy. A lot of work for her but I am sure her hubby helped.
We got nothing!!! And no explanation either! There's a rumor that the bishop thought the money would be better spent elsewhere and a few of the ladies in the ward are feeling quite jipped! Before you go thinking how snotty we all are for feeling sorry for ourselves, remember we're all just Pavlovian dogs who are trained in what we know. For years, this ward has gotten a box of truffles. So with getting nothing after years of being trained yummy chocolates, I think we should have gotten an explanation rather than feelign forgotten.
