Neighborhood Gifts

Yes, I realize that it's only September 22 and we have yet to celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving, but I'm a big fan of planning ahead. We've moved recently and so I get to start fresh with my Christmastime traditions in my new home and neighborhood.

What have your favorite neighbor gifts been that you've given or received during the holiday season? Think unique, inexpensive, fun, edible or any of the above.

I have a great recipe for spiced nuts. I cute container (or a plain one with a cute ribbon) of nuts is a nice and usually unique gift. I've also done homemade chocolates, crocheted hats or scarves, or dollar-store mugs with hot cocoa (not that original, I know).

I'm with you about the timing of things. It kills me that my in laws don't even draw names until after Thanksgiving! Shopping should be done by Thanksgiving so that Christmas can be enjoyed not commercialized. Just my opinion.

My husband likes to cook. Last year he made a bunch of tasty cinnamon rolls. If you don't want to go to the trouble of making them from scratch you could buy ready to cook ones but spice them up a bit with raisins, nuts or different frosting or even colored frosting.
