Brainstorm

Hey Sugar & Spice readers/contributors! I'd love to brainstorm a list of things that you can do in October and November in preparation for the Christmas season. What can you do now to make December less stressful?

One of my favourite mommy bloggers- Simple Mom, is currently writing a series of posts called "12 Weeks to a Peaceful Christmas". Each week she gives suggestions of something to accomplish in order to make the Christmas season enjoyable and not stressful. This is the link to her most recent post in the series- http://simplemom.net/10-weeks-till-christmas-start-or-finish-your-gift-shopping/

I try to get the family pictures done at this time and Christmas cards ordered, so that there isn't such a rush in December. Also I think starting list of things to do and gift ideas is good, so that you can gauge what you need to do.

I personally shop for Christmas all year long so I don't have to buy too much real close to Christmas. My goal this year is to be done with my shopping after black friday (I LOVE black friday shopping!) Then hopefully we can do more fun, family activities instead of me always heading out to the stores!

Thanks for the link Claire! Those are great ideas. I'm starting to save boxes that I get to use for mailing packages. I also have a brainstorming list for gift ideas. I am thinking about gathering all the addresses I need for Christmas cards in the coming weeks. My husband went on a crazy quest for zsu zsu pets last week after he heard they were the hot toy for Christmas so he could beat the rush of them being even harder to get once it's closer to Christmas. He was successful.

I listened to an article on NPR recently that encouraged early shopping. It said that retailers are more geared up for slow shopping this year than last so there won't be last minute deals like there usually are. They encouraged November Christmas shopping when there will still be deals.

Good for you Chantel!! I've been trying to stress the early family photos to my clients as my maternity leave is starting at the end of November but they don't seem to get it! Even not pregnant, I hate the feeling of being rushed because people wait till the last minute to schedule their family photos.

I started my Christmas shopping a long time ago but haven't made the progress I had hoped... as our new baby is due right after Christmas, my plan had been to have all my shopping done by Halloween... that's less than two weeks away and I still have a ways to go. But I have made progress and should be done well before Thanksgiving with only a few things left to purchase on Black Friday.

I'm also compiling my list of names and address for Christmas cards, turning them into address labels and putting them on envelopes now, so they will be set to go for mid to end of November. We've got our photo ready to go, I just need to design the card. I'm doing the same thing for our baby's birth announcement as far as preparing the envelopes ahead of time.

As soon as cute wrapping paper arrives in the stores I'm going to start wrapping gifts. That's one of my least favourite tasks (though I love the way pretty wrapped presents look). I figure the larger my belly gets, the harder it will be to sit on the floor and wrap stacks of gifts.
