My Sister's Keeper

I know of at least a few of you who have read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult... I just finished reading it and I'm just wondering what other people thought of it. I'll add my thoughts as a comment since I certainly don't want to ruin the book for anyone who hasn't read it yet.

OH. MY. GOSH! My heart hurts after reading that book!! I just cried like a baby as I read the last chapter. One of the things I love about Jodi Picoult's writing is how I manage to sympathize with most if not all of the characters... I thought I wouldn't be able to sympathize with Sara because she seemed to so highly favour Kate over Anna. Not only did I sympathize with Sara but I cried for her. How awful to be a mother in that situation.

Not to sound corny or cheesy, but over the past few days as I've read this book, I've found myself cherishing my moments with Cecelia a little bit more.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this book. I have so much more I could say about it, but my head is still kind of foggy from crying!!

I thought it was fantastic. It was the first book I had read in a long while and the first thing that struck me was the amazing writing. I thought it was very cool that each chapter was in a different perspective. Anna's maturity always impressed me too! I'm drawing a blank on character names, but I loved the storylines with Anna's lawyer and his (later on) wife. They were awesome.

I just couldn't believe how often she would end a chapter or a section with a sentence that had like a double meaning: a sentence that kind of made me say "Whoa," in my heart. Picoult is awesome.

I truly didn't see the end coming. I thought Kate would be the one to die.

I posted about this book on my blog a few weeks ago. I read it while I was moving and i had the SAME reaction! I sat on my couch bawling! I was so moved and upset and touched all at the same time! I was so happy that the family finally figured out what was really going on and that they would have some closure but I was so mad that Anna had to die but also found it so beautiful and not corny that Anna had to die to save Kate. And that of course, that is what saved Kate! I liked the different perspectives too. I was very fascinated with Jess, the brother's story, and how he created the antithesis of what his father was all about and how it really was an expression of his feelings about his sister and trying to save her and not being able to be the one who could save her like Anna could.

It's the only book I've read by Picoult so far. which others have people read and would recommend because I've heard they're mostly good but not all great.

I would not recommend The Tenth Circle. I didn't like that one very much at all. I did like Vanishing Acts, though not my favourite. The two others that I've really, really enjoyed by Picoult are Plain Truth, which I LOVED and Nineteen Minutes. I wouldn't say I loved that one, but it was extremely thought provoking. I read it months ago and I still find myself thinking about the story line and the characters.

I really enjoyed the book too. And like all of you I too totally cried at the end. I really enjoyed the story between her lawyer and "guardian". I loved that they got married. Of course reading the book makes me look for bruises on my children's backs, but hey I guess I am just paranoid that way :) I was way bummed out that she killed Anna off, but I really liked how at the end when the doctors asked about organ donation and her Lawyer actually had a say over her organ donation and he said that there was a girl upstairs that needed that kidney. He knew that Anna would definitely want her sister to have it.

I was really happy that the last chapter was in Kate's perspective. I think that throughout the book it was so easy to just think that Sara didn't care about Anna as much as she did Kate, but in the end when Kate talks about the horrible grief that Sara went through it really confirms how much she truely loved both of her daughters.

They are making a movie based on the book right now. I am almost positive that Cameran Diaz is playing Sara (still trying to picture that one) and Alec Baldwin is playing the lawyer (I wasn't picturing him so old)

Didn't know about the movie, cool. Interesting choice for Sara. Hmmm...
