Wednesday Weekly

If you are given a talk assignment in church, along with a length of time to speak for, do you time yourself before you actually give the talk?

I totally do. It's a pet peeve of mine when people speak way too long and either don't give the other speakers enough time to speak, or make sacrament meeting go way over time (we have it for the 3rd hour).

I really haven't given that many talks, but my biggest problem is not speaking long enough. So, if anything I am timing myself to make sure that I use at least a reasonable amount of time.

nope! i usually just make sure i have a ton of material and watch while i'm speaking to cut myself off when it's time for me to be done

I use to, when I was just speaking with other random people, because I wanted to be sure to give them plenty of time, without giving them more time than they had planned to fill.

Now that I'm married and haven't been asked to speak without Scott, I don't worry as much. He always tells me to just use as much (or as little) time as I need, and he'll fill the rest.

yes, always! Although I have to be careful, because I tend to speak faster when I'm nervous!

I usually do.

I don't time it. Especially since Eric is usually talking after me. His talks are always long so I don't have to worry.

Always because I have to make sure I have enough content! And, like Stephanie, I have to remind myself to speak at a normal speed when I'm up in front of everyone!

I do one or two run throughs. Partially to see how long it takes, but more so that I feel more confident when I am up on the stand!!!
