Hot Topics #4

Have you heard the uproar about the newly introduced "Dora the Explorer" tweenage character? What do you think? Is she too "sexy"? The marketing department for Mattel and Nickelodeon has already assured everyone that the top is a tunic and not a short dress, and they also claim that she's not wearing makeup even though her lips are lusciously pink. She's certainly got a cute figure and her hair is fabulous. Would you buy a doll for your kids?

Would I buy the doll, no. But do I think she is too sexy? Not at all. When I first saw her, I thought her shirt was just a long shirt, not a dress, and either way, she has 'stretch capris' on, and so the thought didn't cross my mind. I think she is quite cute, actually, and since it is supposedly for the "tween" market, I think she's just fine. A big step up from the Bratz dolls, in my mind.

I think she looks better than many of the other dolls out there!

If I had a daughter that was the age group for this doll I probably would buy it. When I first saw her I thought she was wearing a long shirt and leggings. Her clothes are modest and she doesn't look like she's wearing make-up. And I agree with the others, she's way better than Bratz.

Is this Dora just older? Or is she a friend of Dora's? I haven't seen the show for awhile.

I think she's cute.

I think she is fine. If my daughter were older and liked her I would buy it. I didn't think she looked to sexy and as far as makeup her lips look pink but little girls wear lip gloss all the time so that doesn't bug me.

I don't think she looks controversial. My exposure to Dora has been whatever DVDs are at the library - so I probably won't see this character for a long time!

I wish I could buy a doll for my kid... but I doubt my son would like it... and with a second boy on the way I am a long way out from getting to play with cute dolls.

I'm not a Dora fan, so no I wouldn't buy this for my daughter. That being said, I think this "tween" Dora is ADORABLE! I don't think she is too sexy at all. I've heard that going around though, that she's too sexy... makes me wonder if the people saying that have ever seen the Bratz or even Barbie dolls! I think this Dora is WAY cuter and not at all sexy or trashy, as those dolls sometimes can be.

You all need to read a book called "Born to Buy"...It will shed a lot of light on this topic.
