Video Camera Help

We are thinking about buying a video camera for our anniversary and I don't even know where to start looking! I know we want something small... we have a dinosaur sized one! That's what we want to get away from. So I was hoping you girls could help me out... What kind of video cameras do you have? What do you like or dislike about them? Thanks!!

Def get something digital. I just use the video function on my digital camera. I have a Nikon Coolpix. It takes lots of video, but I don't love it as a camera. My son broke our Kodak that we had since he was a baby...and we just ran out and bought the coolpix on a whim, but I can't quite get used to it. It is a good cheap quick camera with good video capability though. Just make sure you try it out in the store first!

we use our digital camera as a video camera too. If we were serious video camera aficionados, we would probably have a separate one that does a better job but we just wanted to be able to record snippets now and then and it's done that well for us. We have a Nikon as well. It's our second and we loved our first much more than our second. The first was stolen and we tried to replicate it and did poorly! just not the same the second time :)

We have a Sony handycam and we love it. We've had it for 2 and 1/2 years and it's been so easy to use. It has huge zooming capacity (digital and optical) so that when my husband graduated college in a huge stadium, I could zoom in on his face from super far away. It used the mini dv tapes (cheapest in bulk at SAMs or on sale at best buy. We use a FireWire to transfer the video on to our computer and then burn it to a DVD. It's worked for us and all our 3 kids!

I have the same thing as Jen C. and I have been really happy with it as well. I like using the mini DVD's because you don't even have to burn them onto regular DVD's. Your DVD player will play the mini ones as well. There are also small video cameras that record onto a hard drive, but I didn't want to have to spend the time on the computer to convert it to DVD.

What we did when we started looking was went to somewhere like Best Buy to talk to people that know video cameras well. We picked out a few we liked, then came home and read online reviews. Good luck!

Some video cameras are designed to take really great pictures as well as video. We have a great camera for taking pics so we didn't want a pricier video camera that would take good pics. I love our Sony Handycam. It's small and was super affordable.

This might be a bit late, but we just went through this whole thing trying to find one we like. Our top priority was quality of picture. We wanted a digital hard drive one and we bought one and returned it after a few uses because it had a horrible picture. So we sacrificed the convenience of a hard drive and got the panasonic mini dv, not to be confused with mini dvd. We LOVE it. We also have a firewire to download it to our computer and the picture quality is fabulous.
