Dry Skin!
It's that time of year again! I know we had some posts last year about dry skin in general, and we shared lotion recommendations. I have some specific problem areas to ask about though.... For me: my face has been really dry, and the lotion I use the rest of the year just isn't cutting it. I just can't keep it well enough moisturized! Any recommendations? I'd rather not spend a fortune, but I do think the face is an area worthy of splurging on if necessary. My 15 mos old is battling dry skin as well. Linz's suggestion of Baby Aveeno is GOLD. Her skin was silk after using it one time! She also has a really dry scalp though. I've tried a couple different shampoos with no results yet. Has anyone else had this issue? Know of anything great? Please share!

when my baby had just a little bit of cradle cap (i know its a different situation, but it looked like just dry skin) my doctor told me to just rub a little baby oil on it once a day. it worked great! (and smelled good, too!) i always did it before bed though, because otherwise she had greasy hair all day...
My problem dry area are my hands. Mostly from my wrist to the first knuckle on my fingers. I actually hate using lotion. Lotions tend to leave my hands feeling greasy and I want to wash them, so what was the point of putting on lotion?
My remedy...Immediately before I go to bed to bed I rub a bunch of vaseline (with a q-tip) all over the top of my hands. Then I put socks over my hands. I know, weird! But it sure makes my hands smooth by morning!! I just bought some regular winter gloves the other day and I'm trying them out tonight.
I've been a silent reader of this blog for quite awhile, but I've had problems with dry skin so I thought I'd better comment. My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil products and they work great! I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser to wash my face and at night I use Cetaphil moisturizing cream--I found it a bit heavy for daytime use so I use a lighter moisturizing cream during the day (I like Olay Complete.) Ever since I started using these products, not only is my skin not dry, but I've had less breakouts! Another bonus--they are not too expensive and they last a long time!
I like Cetaphil products the best for my dry skin also. My Mom just introduced me to Aveeno facial wash for ageless skin and i LOVE IT! It keeps my skin more moist and it doesn't break me out! which is lucky because I am allergic to everything!
I'm loving these suggestions! My girls have dry scalps too (the pedi said not to use Head & Shoulders on them because it's too strong, and to just wash their hair less often--I was washing it every night--but it's still a little dry). For my face, the only thing that has worked for me without making me break out is Mary Kay Timewise Moisturizer with SPF 15. It's expensive, though, and you have to order it, so I have to plan ahead when I start running low.
I've battled the dry skin problem too. One product that I really like is called Glytone. I use the "Day Cream for Normal Skin 1". This was given to me by a friend so I'm not sure where she got it, but I'm sure a search on google would answer that. I used this after my Clean and Clear Moisturizer pooped out on me, due to winter. And it worked really well. It got rid of my dryness and flakiness within a day or two. You could also try a light beauty oil (for face), on the really dry areas..just use lightly(sold at GNC and some drugstores). Also make sure to watch what your cleansing with. Alot of the time your cleanser may be stripping too many of your faces natural oils, leaving it even more dry. A couple of good cleansers : Rachel Perry Tangerine Dream, and Aquafina Purifying Daily Cleanser. Both have really good moisturizing extracts in them. I know I went a little overboard here..sorry! I am just in love with anything beauty related:)
