Leaky Diaper Bonanza
I have this ridiculously annoying problem. My 13-month-old son's diaper leaks almost every night. This has been going on for months now, and I don't know how to fix it! I've tried different brands, different sizes, and now I've resorted to just changing it preventively in the middle of the night before it gets the chance to leak. My son hates this and cries, but it's better than having him cry anyway when it leaks and I have to change the whole bedding. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you have any magical diapers or tips on how to change bedding quickly? Does anyone know of a water-proof mattress or sheet cover or anything like that? Or, even better, are you aware of a way to stop a child from filling his diaper to the brim during the night? :) I mean, I'm glad he's well hydrated and all, but you know. It would be nice to have one diaper do the job.

We had this problem for only a short time, but at the time, Chantel told me about Huggies Overnight diapers and they did the trick! I think they may start at size 4. My babe was not quite that size yet but it was close enough for me and it worked.
There are waterproof mattress pads out there. Someone advised me to buy two! I bought mine at Babies R Us or Baby Depot.
We use Luvs, and have never had a problem, but every baby is different! Since I haven't had this problem, I don't know if either of these ideas would work, but have you tried double diapering? Also, you can buy the plastic diapers that people use over cloth diapers at places like Babies R Us. Maybe that over the regular disposable diaper would work? Good luck!
Huggies Overnight! My son fills them up so full that they weigh a ton, but they don't leak.
With my oldest we too used Huggies Overnights for a time. If I remember correctly, we didn't have to use them for a long time. But when he was consistently leaking they worked.
The leaky diapers weren't as much of a problem as potty training was for our oldest. I got our crib mattress cover at Babies R Us, and we love it! I stopped using the pads under the sheets, so cleanup was blissfully easy--even at 3am in the dark, with her baby sister asleep in the same room!
Also, at the risk of offering too much advice, I'd probably cut down (or out) the fluids after dinner. If he's soaking his diapers that much, my guess is he won't dehydrate! :)
When they start leaking at night I always just go a size bigger and it works for me. I am all about pampers though especially for little boys.
I also had this problem with my son, until I bought Huggies Overnights. These did the trick and there have been no issues since. Once the store was out of overnight, so I tried the Pull-ups and they worked just as well.
CONFESSION TIME:
My son wears a maxi pad to bed.
Oh yes, you read that right! He is a Pee-er!!! He hardly wets at all during the day and pees all night. Even the Huggies Overnights aren't enough for my little firehose! So my mom suggested something she used to use called "diaper doublers"-- they don't have those anymore, but they're basically a super maxi pad and they work!! Everyone has a big 'ol bag of the pads they give you when you leave the hospital- use those, they're super long and absorbent! Just put it down the middle of his diaper and voila! No more wet!! I don't know when I'll break the news to him that he's been wearing sanitary napkins for the past year-- maybe on his wedding day!!
p.s. probably TMI, but you also need to make sure you are "tucking" his little penis when you diaper him. If you don't aim it down, it will fill the front of the diaper only and he'll always have a wet front. Take it from a mom of 3, going on 4 boys-- TUCK!!!
