New Years Resolutions

The new year is almost here! I love, love, love setting New Years resolutions, and I'm happy to say that I actually keep about 50% of them!! (I usually set a lot!!) I love that we are able to spend our lives bettering ourselves. What are some of the resolutions you girls are setting for 2008?

I always have the one to live even healthier in terms of food, exercise, and what I cook for dinner.

This year my main one will be to live within my means and then some (meaning pay off more debt and save more).

I am one of those people who sets a new years resolution and it lasts a whole week! I haven't thought about one yet for this year. I am thinking something churchy though like attend the temple at least once a month or have family home evening. Any suggestions for keeping the resolution?

I with Linz on paying off debt. But I will be trying to become better at supporting my husband in his job and the required travel. It is my biggest trial.

Planning and preparing healthier meals and exercising. I think the money resolution will be a joint goal for my husband and I.

As for keeping resolutions, I think it's easier to take things a little at a time. It's hard (for me at least) to have a goal and think "oh, I've got so much further to go!". I like to take things week by week and sometimes day by day. Keep a calendar to record your progress and mark the days when you want to do things such as exercising, going to the temple or having FHE.

exercising more/at all...

going to the temple once a month, truly studying my scriptures instead of just reading them..

I agree that its way easier for me to accomplish my goals when I write down on calendars that i'm going to do something on such and such of a day. also, its easier to keep goals when you set realistic goals. like, i know that i won't work out everyday and then i'd just get discouraged and give up..so i want to work out at least 3 times a week. and i can only have dessert once a week, etc. that way i can still have dessert sometimes! :)

Next year is our last here in Florida as a poor dental student family, and the last three years have certainly had its challenges, both financially and otherwise. During hard times I have often found myself foolishly thinking that all my problems will be solved once we are not students anymore and are living closer to home. So, that said, my resolution is to just focus on the things that make me happy here instead of putting all my happy eggs in the basket of leaving. I want to look back on this time of life and think, "Wow, that was a really fun time" rather than "Man, I wish I had appreciated that time more than I did."

I always have general ones to exercise more and do better at studying scriptures, etc. I have found if I don't set very specific goals though, I don't do as well. This year I'd like to set a goal for attending the temple. Our first year of marriage we set the goal to go once a month, and we did really well. Obviously it's harder now that we have a little one, but I'd like to set a specific goal for temple attendance, and also for getting family names ready to take with us.

A few years ago, I set one New Year's resolution and that was to set a monthly goal and keep track of my progress. It worked really well. Instead of having a lofting year-long goal, I had monthly ones that were easier to accomplish and track. I may go back to doing that...
