Mom's Day and Dad's Day gifts
I'm sorry if this is an inappropriate question but I'm just curious. What does your ward/branch give to the men and women on Mother's Day and Father's Day? I was actually pleasantly surprised when the moms in my ward got a bar of soap, a bookmark, and some Ferrero Rochers. I'm used to the single carnation that inevitably breaks before church ends. But then I was a little jealous today when my husband got three different delicious cookies and a Mr. Goodbar. My mother-in-law said that in her ward they gave out mini-pies today. We obviously don't need to get anything, but I just think it's kind of interesting. What do you get?

In our ward, the men got nothing! I felt bad for them. I got a carnation last month. My Mom said with my DH in with the bishopric that I should get him to get us chocolate! :) We even have a Ghirardelli manager in our ward so you'd think it wouldn't be that hard! :) I have to admit I've never seen as much as you're mentioning though!
I also got a carnation for Mother's Day. The year before, in Ann Arbor, they gave us each a big old candy bar. I prefer the chocolate. They didn't even acknowledge that it was Father's Day in our ward yesterday.
Yeah the goodies they gave out in our ward were great! In our wards in Utah they would always give the mothers a plant. Mine never lasted. I think this is the first time my hubby has gotten anything.
I've always gotten the flowers too. Yesterday they made the guys HUGE bowls of strawberry shortcake, including a slice of chocolate cake, white cake, whipped cream, AND ice cream. I was a little jealous....
For mother's day we get a Lindor chocolate candy bar (which is awesome chocolate) and then during part of the second hour we have a dessert (this year it was boston cream cake). For father's day women volunteer to make four mini pies and bring them on Sunday for the dads. Our ward is fantastic!
We got a cute bag of different kinds of chocolate for Mother's Day and then we did the mini-pie thing for Father's Day which I must say was a BIG HIT. But...I'm not surprised that the pies weren't for Mother's Day...because of course the women were making them. :) In fact, the Bishopric said that if it wasn't for the Relief Society, there would be no gift for Father's Day. :) Such is life.
katiecaroline--I think yours is the best. Steph, that strawberry shortcake sounds quite amazing too. Michigan rocks! My mother-in-law and sister-in-law are in an Ann Arbor ward and did the mini-pies as well.
Oh my gosh! Our ward did the flower for mother's day (which my daughter always steals away), and the dads get a Big Hunk candy bar (which I've never seen in any store or heard of outside of Father's Day here--with good reason, in my opinion). It's chewy nougat with peanuts, and it's really thin like taffy. The wrapper looks like it's from the 70s, and my hubby said he thinks somebody just has a huge stash in their basement that they raid every year. Sorry, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but we were already sort of unimpressed before reading about so many of your absolutely phenomenal goodies! :)
Liz, what's a DH?
internet lingo abbreviation for "dear husband"
Big Hunk is my Dad's favorite candy bar and it has had the same wrapper for years so it probably would look retro! :) I haven't bought one for years because it hurts my teeth but we used to get them at EFY for the last dance to give to the guys and they'd give us sweet tarts!
Our ward was so lame this year! We didn't get anything for Mother's Day and for the dads they had a pie social or something after the potluck but most of the ward doesn't even stay for that. I was really disappointed...
Usually the women get a plant, but this year we gave out a RS cookbook that everyone contributed too. We took the money that the HP were going to spend on plants and then took some from our budget and had the books bound and put together nicely. So much better than the plant which I usually don't even take. The men got cookies.
Woah! I want to be in your wards! The men in our ward didn't get anything. On Mother's Day we got a pretty flower to plant.I decided it's sort of a strange gift because if you actually plant it, you have one plant that doesn't match. Funny!
The guys in our ward got a high-five from the bishopric on the way out of sacrament meeting. As fun as that was, they would probably have preferred pies.
