What should my 8 mo. old be eating
I'm wondering what kinds of foods you've given your kids at 8 months old. I have a book of baby recipes and it says that I can give him bread or bites of mild cheeses, even yogurt. Can I give him yogurt already? He only has two teeth, bottom center. Won't he choke on bread or things like that? Will he automatically know how to chew or at least gum the food?

I started with Gerber puffs because they dissolve even if there is not much chewing going on. Several weeks ago I watched as my 13 mo. old nephew ate anything with only four teeth and I realized that I could be doing more with my little one. Their gums and their few teeth can do a lot.
Try yobaby Yogurt (they have it at wal-mart and HEB. Try giving him little pieces of cheese, whole-grain bread or bagels, fruits cut up in small pieces like bananas, peeled grapes, pears, cantaloupe, etc. We're still working on solid vegetables but she usually spits them up. Also try little bits of deli meats. Just do it little by little. My little one chokes on it sometimes but washing it down with water usually helps and I try not to let her hoard a bunch of food in her mouth before swallowing. Give a little bit at a time.
I think Linz covered it pretty good! I was really nervous too, about sticking solid food in my baby's mouth! I think until you (both) get used to it, a good rule of thumb is to stick with things that couldn't completely occlude his airway if he were to choke. In other words, things that dissolve, or things that are cut up really small. You'll get braver as you see how good he actually does. It's surprising!
Oh, and another one of my favorites is scrambling an egg yolk and then giving her the little pieces. It's soft, she can't really choke, and it's full of protein!
My girls also liked string cheese, which was nice and soft.
