Exercise in Pregnancy?

Right now my ward has an extremely high pregnancy rate, rivalling many BYU wards. With all the cute pregnant women around, I have been reminded how cute I wasn't and how much weight I gained. Lets just say I am one of those women who gains everywhere. So this has gotten me thinking that when I become pregnant with my third child I want to have a new approach to exercise and eating. Through my first two pregnancies I followed the no exercise and eat what you don't think you will throw up routine. Needless to say, I don't think I ended each pregnancy in the best shape. So what do you cute pregnant ladies do for exercise and how do you eat so well when nausea is such a huge factor?

Exercising is completely safe while pregnant, but you should start before you are pregnant....and just keep doing the same routine....then it won't be a shock to your system. Eating healthy is hard while nauseous, so don't worry about it, but don't replace it with crap either....once you are no long nauseous, take care of yourself and your baby...I don't understand when women think that b/c they are pregnant it's ok to eat high fat, high sugar, high cholesterol foods....if anything you should do the opposite since you are caring for another human being.

When I was pregnant I tried to go walking every day...it wasn't much...but it definitely helped a lot I think.

Also, I was very lucky in that I didn't get too sick in my first trimester...and then after that I basically just continued eating like I ate before I was pregnant...just a little bit more. And not really that much more. I mean...when you think about it, you're really not supposed to eat too much more calorie-wise. My doctor talked to me a lot about how if you follow the guidelines...it really only adds up to a couple more snacks a day. But anyway, I tried my hardest to not let being pregnant give me an excuse to eat unhealthily...because I knew that fats and sugars that I ate while pregnant would be fats and sugars that I would have to work off after pregnancy...so I tried very hard to eat healthy snacks and just keep my diet pretty much the same. And...it worked VERY well. It was hard...and I definitely allowed myself a couple indulgences (hey! if I was gonna be big as a boat...I deserved some dessert every now and again)...but I tried hard to eat well.

I agree with what's been said. A good motivation to eat healthy (once you actually feel like eating) is that you're contributing to your baby's health as well. I know some women like to use the excuse of being pregnant to chow down but I personally didn't want to look extra chubby even when I was pregnant so that was a motivation for me to eat healthy. Exercise makes me feel so good in pregnancy. That is motivation enough for me to do it. Anything that can make me feel strong and good is something I will continue to do!

I think the two are related. When I exercise, I feel like eating healthier foods. Exercising made me feel so much better while pregnant, and I think it even helped with the nausea. Just make sure you start a good routine before you are pregnant, like Kage said. I managed to run while pregnant up until I was 39 weeks, I probably looked pretty funny, but I felt great!

Thanks you guys. Currently I feel like I am in great shape, but unfortunately my last pregnancies had months of coach time with nasuea, and bed rest the last couple of months. I was able to keep the weight down on my second, but I have worked so hard to be in good shape I don't want to just keep extra weight off. Thanks Tiffany for your walking suggestion. Right now I run 5 days a week and do weight training 3 days a week, so I think I might just have to cut down my instensity level and get over my all or nothing thinking.
