Entertainnment

What strategies do you have for saving a dollar when it comes to entertainment?

1. We invite other couples over for dinner, instead of going out- and watching our kids play together is usually quite entertaining!
2. We rent movies from the library because they are free.
3. If there is a movie we want to see in the theater we go during the week at our local theater because weekdays it is only 4 dollars a ticket and we always smuggle in our own candy!
4. If we want to eat out we try to do it on nights that specials occur. (eg. Monday nights fajitas are 2 for the price of 1 at Chili's, and Tuesday nights at our local Culver's, butterburgers are only $1.)

We rarely splurge for a movie theater. We'd much rather rent it and save 15 bucks later. Besides, then we don't have to get a babysitter!

We eat out at a fancier place only for special occasions but we often go out once on the weekend for a meal and do a cheaper place like Chipotle.

We play a lot of games at home though which end up paying for themselves and still entertain us!

This isn't anything new, but we netflix a lot of movies. It makes for an easy date night after the baby is in bed and we are both feeling too tired to go out. Plus, I am not that into the movie theatre experience so I don't care if we go or not.

We also do things with friends (game night, barbeques, play at the park), so our kids can play together.

I look online for coupons/discounts to local attractions I want to see. We mentioned to a friend we wanted to check out the Desert Botanical Garden (in Phoenix) and she happened to be a member of it and gave us some free admission coupons. So "networking" with your friends about places/attractions to see sometimes results in getting coupons from them, too.

My ward has a mommy and me twice a month that has helped me a lot. It has helped me get to know the area better as well as fellow ward members. Sometimes we just get together and chat, other times we meet in smaller groups and do things like crafts or shopping together.

Natalie has a great babysitting co-op going with some of her friends. They each take one Friday night a month and watch the kids from 5:30-8:30. In return they get the rest of the Fridays to go out together or get projects done without the kdis around. I am wanting to start something like that but will be moving soon... so I plan on starting one up wherever we move to.

We have all 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls, and just pop one of those in when our entertainment budget has been used up! Best show ever!

I'm not a movie theatre fan, so we rarely go to the movies... and if we do, we buy tickets though Scott's work because its like $4 cheaper per ticket that way! We tend to borrow movies from friends or from the library. And of course we browse the $5 movie bin at Walmart. That way, yes we've spent $5, but we can watch the movie over and over again, if we want to.

Eating out is one of my weaknesses, but we try to share meals which helps cut down on cost, and on how much I eat! :D Both good things.

We get together a lot with friends. We get together most Tuesday nights with a couple other police officers and their wives. We each bring a different part of the meal and have dinner together, then play games or go in the hot tub. Its a lot of fun.

I agree with just about everything said...we really try to watch for deals..like most big museums have a free day, you just have to figure out when it is. It's always more crowded on that day..but its free! :)

I LOVE my mother's group/playgroup...its the best entertainment I get for the day. :)

Also, look for the deals at restaurants. Chipotle especially seems to give away free burritos at least once every couple months. It rocks. And we like to eat out at places that you don't have to pay a tip...or get the food to go, so you don't have to pay the tip. Stingy I know...but when you're already paying that much for food...a tip adds a lot to the date!

We also have a babysitting exchange with our friends, we do it twice a month and its GREAT!

Also, we love pot lucks..and our number one favorite entertainment is board games!! Seriously...what do other people do for fun? That's all we do! :)

I like to go to local museums and parks that are free. We have fun packing picnics and we buy cheap toys from walmart for outside. They have fun little games like the velcro catch game, bubbles, kites, plastic bat and ball. It's fun.

We also like to get ice cream cones at the grocery store because it is cheap and yummy. If your grocery store doesn't do ice cream mcDonalds ice cream is cheap too.

Another fun thing is to go to the dollar store and everyone pick something fun to do together. You can compete for who picks the best thing.

Also, my husband and I have recently tried to pick up tennis as a fun way to spend time together and we have a really good time (when we have the chance to get out)! Sometimes we even play doubles with our friends...or invite two couples and take turns playing doubles and watching the kids. It's a really good time. We also like lawn games like bocce ball and ultimate frisbee (but you need more people for ultimate). :)

Also, my friend loves this website http://toddlertoddler.com for fun activities to do with your kid. :)
