Book request

For adults that is...I know we've had this question in the past, but I'm looking for books that people have read lately (or awhile ago) that are really great, favorites, etc. I am going on a little getaway with my hubby soon, and I am planning on doing lots of reading on the plane, airport, by the pool, etc., a luxury I don't usually have time for. I plan to go to the library before we leave, but I hate picking random books that I know nothing about. I may not get another chance like this for years to come, so spare me the "just okay" books you've read lately and tell me the ones you couldn't put down!

If you want a beautifully written book on a more serious matter, try Too Late the Phalarope by Alan Paton (author of Cry, the Beloved Country). I loved The Time Traveler's Wife but I do caution you that it has some language and a few graphic parts. If you want something fun and light, I enjoyed The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchet. I could go on, but I'll let others put their two cents in!

If you've never read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card it is an awesome book!

i have to echo Poisonwood Bible and Persian Pickle Club (and I'm in the middle of My Sister's Keeper and enjoying it as well)
The Thirteenth Tale
If I want pure escape, I read Mary Higgins Clark or Anita Shreve.
Have fun!

Of course the Twilight series...but you've probably already read them.

I love the Women of Genesis series by Orson Scott Card. I'm also a big fan of Shannon Hale's books (but they're more young adult fiction).

If you like thrillers, I like Harlan Coben a lot, but some of his books have some pretty bad language.

I haven't read anything super amazing lately, but I would totally have to agree with Time Traveler's Wife! Again, some caution would be in order but it's still really good!
Lonesome Dove is really good, but it's pretty long and takes about a hundred pages to get into.
If you read anything amazing let me know, I'm always on the lookout!

Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio by Peg Kehler. A true story about the author who got polio as a young woman in the 40's. It's a pretty simple read. I found it uplifting.

I also agree about Enders Game.

Anything by Shannon Hale: Goose Girl, Princess Academy, Enna Burning, Book of a Thousand Days. They are all fantastic, though Enna Burning is a sequel to Goose Girl and there is a 3rd one, River Secrets that I haven't read yet.

I love the Harry Potter series suggestion... they are such good books. Also, anything Mary Higgins Clark or Nora Roberts... both authors tend to write pretty easy reads, but definitely entertaining. Cecelia Ahrens books are AWESOME!!! She's my favourite author. One of her books, P.S. I Love You was just made into a movie, which I haven't seen, since its my absolute favourite book and I know the movie changed the storyline a ton. Rosie Dunn is another good one of hers. Have fun on your trip!!!
