Books, books, books!

I need suggestions for good books to read. My husband is extremely busy in med school and studies quite a bit. I'm much happier in the evening if I have a good book to curl up with while he continues to study. If you know any books worth recommending I would appreciate it!

Have you read the Peacegiver by James L. Ferrell? It's incredible. I promise you'll be changed and never look at the atonement the same way.

Well my first suggestion would be Harry Potter, always fun to read. I would recommend any of Mary Higgins Clark's novels, if you like a good mystery. If you are looking for a church book, I have been reading Trusting Jesus by Jeffrey R. Holland, and I am enjoying it.

If you want a whole series to read, Dean Hughes has a great one called Children of the Promise. Then there's a sequel series called Hearts of the Children. They're historical Church fiction, set in the time of WWII and then Vietnam, I think. I loved them because they are uplifting, since they are written from a Church perspective. But they have love stories, interesting stories, etc about the characters. You get hooked, and they're hard to put down!

If you like Young Adult novels, The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale is written by an LDS lady and is a sweet and fun almost fairy tale book.

I would recommend The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. I have read several in that series and they are good, clean novels. The characters have good morals. Fairly entertaining and easy to read, too. Good "bubble gum" type books.

He also has a couple other series he writes. If you like him try the other series out.

Another idea is to subscribe to a newspaper... sounds lame but it is a great way to keep up on current events and you get something new to read everyday.

I haven't read Peacegiver but I know my dad has it so I'll have to see if I can borrow it next time I go home. I've read all the Harry Potter books and love them as well as many of the Dean Hughes novels. I have also read Goose Girl and that book really got me into Young Adult novels (if you haven't read the other novels by Shannon Hale I would recommend them - Enna Burning, Princess Academy, and River Secrets). Thanks for all the suggestions!

My sister has been trying to get me to read The Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas. It's one of her faves.

Laurie King has a series of Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes mysteries. They're very old school (in other words, not terribly mysterious), but they're fun, easy reads. I always LOVE anything by Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice is my all-time favorite), and Glimpses into the Life and Heart of Marjorie Pay Hinckley is GREAT! I was recalling stories from it for weeks!
