More questions...

Sorry for all my questions hogging the site! I am 48 hours into 'cold turkeying' the breastfeeding. Kalli is actually doing really well, but I am pretty uncomfortable. (sorry if this is TMI, but I just want to know) So when should I expect to feel relief and umm, go back to normal size? Sorry but as this is my first nursing experience, I am not sure what to expect!

Also- kind of the same page, I have decided that once I return to 'normal', I am planning on spending some money and actually going somewhere and getting fitted for a correct fitting bra. As someone who is not small chested, I would love a good supporting bra that actually fits. Have any of you ever done this before and had success and where did you go? Macy's, Victoria's Secret (slight cringe)? Again, sorry for TMI!

first issue: try cold cabbage leaves or "sooth-eez" to help with the engorgement! i know the first sounds weird but it actually does work!!

second: I'm in your same boat and I recommend either a high end department store (like Nordstrom's) or VS. I boycott VS on principle because of their commercials but they are good at what they do!

Personally, I have gone to a specialty store called Sunny J's. They are in the Detroit area, I know you don't live down here, but they are really good at what they do.

When you say cold turkey...did you go from full feeding days to nothing, or did you taper down to one feeding a day first?

I suggest tapering gradually over 4 to 6 weeks, down to one feeding, and then if you are uncomfortable, expressing milk through massage under hot water in the shower.

When nursing both my children I went down to normal size after about 4 months of b-feeding, so I don't know when you will return...maybe this is your new size.

Before you get fitted for a bra, do research so that you are educated and know what looks/fits right...try oprah's website, she has had bra interventions. I bet there are also resources/recommendations on where to go.

Kage- she was down to 1-2 short feedings during the day and 1 at night. So she was almost done to begin with. I don't know what my 'normal' size will be, I just wonder when they will be done with the engorgement so I can be done with my dingy, nasty nursing bras and go get a good one!

thanks Kristi- I will have to look into them, Howell isn't too far!

I have the same exact question because I too am exactly 48 hours into cold turkey weaning. How funny! The first 24 were the worst, but I would have expected to feel a little better by now. My baby decided on Tuesday to be done with nursing. He's 11 1/2 months old so I'm just fine with it!

My daughter weaned herself from nursing when she was 7 months and I pumped for a while to try to keep her eating breastmilk, but then eventually my milk kind of just dried up. So maybe if you're in serious pain you could try pumping a little to get some relief... (just don't pump too much to stimulate more milk production...)

I just cold turkeyed it a couple weeks ago. I felt engorged for only a few days and found relief just supressing a little milk out by hand in the shower. It took 2 weeks to have all the milk out of my breasts. I suggest getting fitted at Victoria Secret or JCpenny I have done it at both places and thought they were both great.
