We used the illustrated Book of Mormon that the church distributes and shared a story. It was pretty low key but M likes it. The best part was asking her what song we should sing and she said, "sleeping beauty!" She thinks princess songs are much less exciting than church songs!
I have learned to have VERY low expectations with my two year old! We talked about Nephi, and how he followed the Lord, vs. Laman and Lemuel. For the most part she was running around the room, oblivious to FHE. But she did ask me who the people in the Gospel Art picture were, and when I read the scripture about Nephi following the Lord, she grabbed some scriptures and started rattling off gibberish! We finished by playing "Follow" the Leader, since we were talking about following the Lord!
My husband taught us about the Holy Ghost and we decided to tell stories to the kids about our own personal experiences with the Holy Ghost. My son wanted a "scary story" so Steve told them about the time on his mission when a man pulled a gun on him and his companion. To find out what happened you'll have to read my blog...but the story really kept my son's attention...and I doubt he'll ever forget that lesson. I think FHE is the perfect time to just talk to your children and tell them stories from your past.

Our lesson was the presentation of a plan for better sleep. We are kicking off a week of better sleep habits this week and FHE was a great place to talk about it. We also had a pretty good night's sleep! Our activity was family dancing and throwing around balloons.
I feel silly... even after all our talk about FHE, I TOTALLY forgot last night!!! Scott's work schedule really messes me up... he was home all day yesterday so in my mind it was Saturday. And for some reason I woke up and thought this morning was Monday. I'm going to have FHE tonight... better late than never, right?
We had some friends over for dinner and FHE. They have 4 kids 4-12 plus our 2 year old. I taught the lesson on prophets. I printed out a picture of Pres. Monson and then asked questions about what a prophet is, who calls him, etc. When someone answered the question they got to hold the picture and "lead" the others around the room as we all sang the chorus of "Follow the Prophet." In my mind it was going to be great. In reality it wasn't as great. The kids weren't very focused and the "prophet" seemed to always lead the others astray and/or the others didn't follow. Oh well...
I almost forgot, we did have a great game of "memory" with pictures of different prophets (Bible, BofM, modern). That worked out really well. We were able to briefly discuss each of the prophets as we turned them over. I'll definitely be doing the memory game for FHE again.
i'm impressed at the activities you guys do with your little little ones! i know it's good that we just get it done but it's often so thrown together that we don't really do an activity! thanks for the reminder!!
So we did FHE last night after dinner and it was... ok. My friend had to run her son to the ER following a scary head bonk so I was watching her baby. Cecelia is obsessed with babies right now so I struggled to maintain any kind of concentration... it was definitely difficult, but we did it. That's what counts, right??
