Recipe Needed: Sugar Cookies

Hey girlies- I'm wanting to make sugar cookies with my little princess so she can give them to her friends for Valentines Day. Here's the thing- I'm not a huge fan of sugar cookies unless they are the yummy cakey ones. Well, I've never before made sugar cookies so I have pretty much no idea what I'm doing! Do any of you have recipes for the yummy cakey ones?? If so, please share!!

I really like this recipe. It makes the cookies really soft and delicious. You just have to make sure that they're not too thin when you roll them out. I like them a lot. I've made them with whole wheat flour too and they still tasted super delicious. :)

Super Soft Sugar Cookies
1 c. butter or margarine
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 tsp. baking flour
4 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs and beat well. Add sour cream and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients and add to the creamed mixture. Roll on floured surface or plastic wrap to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter. Place on buttered cookie sheet about 2 inches apart and sprinkle with sugar, or frost when cooled. Bake at 350 for 14-17 minutes or until very lightly browned, not much. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

Ooh!! Thanks girls! I'm excited to make them. And my hubby is even more excited. Apparently sugar cookies are his favourite and he's been missing them our whole marriage... :D

These are our favorite Sugar Cookies! They are soft and moist and a little fudgy. I've had many requests for this recipe. I hope you enjoy it. I will be posting to my recipe blog this week. http://janellescookbook.blogspot.com/

Great American Cookie Company's Sugar Cookie Recipe

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon lemon extract (or almond extract)
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 tablespoons sour cream
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Cream shortening, butter, sugar; add eggs, lemon, vanilla and sour cream.
Mix till creamy; add sifted dry ingredients: salt, soda, and flour.
Chill for several hours or overnight. Roll into balls and flatten with bottom of sugar coated glass.
Bake at 350° just until the edges start turning color. Time will vary depending on how large and thick you made your cookies. It is important not to over bake if you want the texture to remain chewy and soft.
Decorate as desired.
