Bugspray for children

Does anyone know the guidelines for what kind of bugspray to use on children? Are there certain chemicals you should or shouldn't put on their skin? Or do you know of specific brands that are recommended? It's mosquito time in MI, but it's so hard for me to put chemicals on my little one's skin!

Our ped just said to make sure DEET is less than 10%. It should say on the front bottom of the bottle.

You can find Deet free spray it's kind of hard to find and more expensive, but worth it in my opinion

Most of the "family" sprays are the low DEET kind and seem to work okay. We tried the wipes ones once though and they did NOT work at all! I believe its' the same as sunblock though where it shouldn't be used on babies <6 months old.

I also personally keep it as far from their hands as possible so that it doesn't get in their eyes and mouth which inevitably would happen if it were on their hands. That may be a no-brainer but my hubby learned that one the hard way!
