Shout out to Michigan

Aren't a bunch of you from Michigan? Or at least went to school there?

My brother has decided to go to law school in Lansing, MI. He and his wife will be moving there at the first of August. I am wondering if anyone is from the area, and if you could offer any tips, advice, etc. that I could pass on to him. He lives in Cedar City, Utah right now, so it will be a long drive of a move!

Anyway, any tips relating to relocating would be great. Any information or just plain excitement to share would be awesome, too. He is excited to be fairly close to Chicago and Toronto. He is big into music/concert going and he says that nearly every band that comes to North America stops in one of those two cities.

Born in MI, went to college in East Lansing, and STILL HERE! So ask away! A TON of LDS couples move here for law school, especially Cooley. The majority of them end up in the Lansing Ward, but there's quite a few in Williamston too, which is really close to Lansing. I'm not in one of those wards anymore, but I know there are some girls on here that are! I'd be happy to offer some tips for housing to check out, or I could possibly even hook him up with some LDS Cooley law students to talk to. Here's my email address if you want to email me or pass it on to him.

I don't know how he feels about moving to MI, but tell him we have a pretty fun group here!!!

Good Luck with that Law School Business. My husband did his undergrad MSU and it came down to IU for Law Schoo or MSU. We opted for the former, but we did do a ton of research on the Law School there.

If you want you can have him give my husband, Kurt a call.

The only thing I can suggest which is totally not related to coursework but fun This may not make sense now, but rack up those Westlaw points! We are up to a fre Ipod and if we started our first year you can get some crazy good stuff for free just by collecting points. (which means open all those annoying emails)

Good Luck.

My husband and I live in the Lansing area and I am happy to help. We live in the Williamston Ward boundaries and we love it! It has a great mix of students (younger couples) and families. I along with Stephanie have lived in the area a long time and can offer some housing suggestions. My email address is

Tell him winters are brutal here but he will love the spring and fall!

Charlie Kang's on Grand River Ave. was our fave restaurant when my hubby and I were going to school there. (Chinese Korean cuisine). MSU campus is gorgeous for walks.

Hopefully I'm not too late to add my comment.

I also grew up in MI, in the Holt ward (which also is another family/student ward. I loved it!) There are some really good housing options in the Holt ward that I can pass along where a lot of Law and other students have lived in the past. I'd love to answer any questions too!

My dad teaches at cooley, and is in the Stake Pres. so I'm sure he'd love to help and answer any questions your brother may have about the area, church or school.
