Going Under the Knife?

After reading the Wednesday Weekly question about game/reality shows, I was thinking about the original Extreme Makeover, the one where the people get plastic surgery and personal trainers and chefs and everything. I was just wondering...would you ever consider going under the knife? I have always said I woudn't, but after having twins and seeing what it did to my stomach, I must admit a tummy tuck doesn't sound half bad...I'm not sure I could ever go through with it, and I could never afford it, so I guess I'll just keep dreaming of a flat stomach...:) (PS. My sons are so lucky they're cute and worth the extra flab!:)

I nannied for a lady when I was younger that had surgury on her face and she looked awful for nearly 4 months. She had this wrap on her face and it was NOT pretty. When it all cleared up I couldn't tell much of a difference. DUH! I made a personal decision there and then to never do anything like that. I have just decided the only way to really get rid of that post prego weight is the old fashioned way.

I wouldn't mind a tummy tuck down the road when I am well done having kids. Not to mention a boob lift because holy moly they are to my knees :)

My Mom had a tummy tuck-it was her reward for shedding weight after many years-and she has loved it! I feel the same way as Kristi! Now whether I'd actually do it, that's a whole other story! I just had surgery and it scared the heck out of me!!!!!

My take on it is, you need to feel comfortable in your own skin. If you've done all you can to take care of your body with exercise and eating right and you just can't do anymore, then by all means do it! If you're not happy with the way you look then I think that starts to affect other parts of your life because you don't feel as confident as you could.
I think it's totally a personal decision. I don't see myself ever doing it, but I'm not against it at all.

Everybody's doing it, but this is what I think.

I wouldn't do it.

I had a breast reduction in November. I'd always been big, but after two kids they got bigger in pregnancy and never got smaller when I lost the weight. It was a very invasive surgery and recovery was difficult for the first month.

But I have absolutely no regrets about it. I went from a DDD to a small C. I feel like the woman I was actually meant to be. I feel so much better about myself, but unclothed and not, despite residual scarring. Not to mention the fact that my chronic back pain has diminished significantly.

I would never do something in the name of vanity, but I do believe that there are some procedures that are justified (obviously).

That was supposed to say "BOTH unclothed and not."

Joni, I can definitely see the advantage of doing what you did in your situation and I definitely agree with your last paragraph. There are definitely situations where I think it can just make life better and I actually really love what it does for people on Extreme Makeover

my wife had the same problem after only one. fortunately or unfortunately her thyroid problem has helped her to slim down and flatten her tummy. if i ask her, she would rather keep her ugly tummy than going under the knife or the thyroid.

by the way, i like your blog!

I'm sorry ladies, but WHAT IS a flat stomach anyway? Never had one before exactly...just got real good at sucking it in that's all. No surgery for me, no THANKS! I guess I'm just soooo vain, that I think I'm ok, just the way I am! :)
