The WOMAN Challenge

Hi Ladies,

I happened upon this awesome Challenge that is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the May Edition of Real Simple Magazine. Here's the deal:

For National Women's Health Week, the Office on Women's Health sponsors an 8-week national physical activity challenge called the WOMAN (Women and girls Out Moving Across the Nation) Challenge. There are 10,800 pedometers available on a first-come-first-served basis for participants who request one during registration.
The Challenge offers women and girls two options for participating: either as an individual or as a team. Participants record their daily activity levels on a personal WOMAN Challenge online account to move them along their chosen virtual route. Throughout the Challenge, participants receive automatic progress reports, motivational e-mails, and health education.
A virtual route is a map on the Internet that helps illustrate your progress throughout the WOMAN Challenge. "Virtual" means that you don't actually travel the route, rather you are moved along the route based on the physical activity you log on the website. There are six routes that you can choose from:
Cross-Country
Pacific Coast
Rocky Mountains
Plains and Midwest
Gulf and Caribbean
Northeast

Doesn't that look cool?! So far I'm participating individually, but I thought it might be fun if you other ladies want to join as well and we can create a team. Let me know if you're interested and if you registered. I'm a fan of anything that motivates me to get off my rump and step into shape! Plus you get a free pedometer!?!

***FYI***During registration, if you choose to record your physical activity in miles or minutes, you are not eligible to receive a free pedometer. You can receive a free pedometer only if you register to record your physical activity in steps.

Stace-it sounds way cool! I have a couple pedometers (Do you think I have figured out how they work yet?) so I think I am more interested in doing this by time. Let's get movin! I want to train for that 1/2 marathon in Top of Utah this fall-are you up for it? Let's print out a schedule and start our runs--we can do our long runs on Sat. like we did in college. Let me know if you want to. THis would be a good way for us to use our pedometers :) and...we even might decide to do the whole thing!! Let's do it while neither of us are prego. Anyone else in Logan want to join in?

This looks cool. Can you have a team that goes across the country? I need some extra motivation and I think I will register!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that we can form our own team and virtually go on whichever trek we want!

So basically do you try to cover the distance of one of the virtual routes? I signed up for the Gulf one, but I could probably switch and join the team! I don't think I could cover that ground alone!

That's the best part! We can all do different routesif we want to and still be on the same team! I'll get us registered for a team as soon as I'm sure I've received word from everyone who's interested.

Count me in! Do I have to register by myself first or should I wait until you put together the team?

I think it would be easiest if you registered yourself and then when I create the team, I'll have your information to include. I'm pretty sure that's the easiest way to go about it. I'll register the entire team on Thursday.

Count me in! I signed up for the Pacific Coast tour...I want to end in Hawaii!!! We did this at work when I was pregnant and I'm convinced it's why I barely gained any weight! This will be so great!

I'm TOTALLY in! I love this idea!!! This is so global village. Well, okay, so maybe national village would be more accurate...
