Organization

What strategies/ideas do you have for being organized at home? Or what have you attempted to do to be organized at home?

I am a big fan of "cube" storage. I guess it stems from the scrapbooker in me. I wish I had a picture of mine handy, but right now it's in storage.

Go to http://shop.cropinstyle.com and click on the "Modular Furniture" link on the left side of the page.

I like it because you can customize your storage space, vertically and horizontally.

I've also seen VERY similar products at Target.

I have found for bills to ditch the file box. My mom showed me her big binder of bills and then labels them with the year on the back of the binder. I made tabs in the binder with all of our bill topics, i.e. comcast, medical, dental, utilities, ect. I keep the hole punch close and as soon as those bills come they are easy to file away and get out of sight! They are easy to store and in order. This is one way I stay more organized.

They have those cube storage systems that Skipper is talking about at Wal-Mart and K-Mart, too. They are really cheap and they look nice. We have those all over the place in our home. The ones I've seen come in beige or white, and you can also paint them really easily.

I'm intrigued by this cube thing. What do yo usually put in them? Like toys or more than that?

The best way I can stay organized is just writing things down. I like to write down a short-term and long-term to-do list. Sometimes I'm remdinded of something I need to do (but it doesn't need to happen right away), and every time I'm reminded, I feel like saying "Ugh." To kind of get it off my mind, I write it down, and that seems to help me feel like I'm one step closer to getting it done. Good idea with the bills--I tend to pay my bills (and I do it on-line) as soon as I get them so I don't forget and I can put in my monthly budget right away to see how much money is left.

I try to burn picture CD's regularly (about every 700 pictures) and I burn back-ups just in case and keep them in a fire-safe box. If something happened to my home, I would be so happy if I still had my memories!

I think I probably use the cubes for everything. I've put scrapbooking stuff in the cubes with drawers, I've filed bills in the filing cube, and I've displayed books in the open cubes. Their such a good size, you can do anything with them.

Oooh, this is an area I could use lots of tips in! The one thing that I keep pretty organized is all of my scrapbook stuff. I have supply organizers, paper organizers, etc. And I do the same thing with my pictures that Linz mentioned. I've experimented with how to keep the "stash" on the counter organized. I bought a mail sorter, and I put bills and stuff in it as soon as I open them. But somehow every few days the pile grows. It seems to be stuff that no one wants to deal with at the moment. Any tips for the stash???

Oh, the "stash". If there's some things in the stash that I can take care of that day, I try to take 15 minutes even if it's at the end of the day and do it. It seems the longer the sits, the more likely I will never do anything about it! I have a a little box on my counter with 3 drawers and keep certain things in each drawer. That helps me stay somewhat organized.
