Graduation Gifts

I'm looking for good ideas for a high school graduation gift? Do you have any?

I like gifts that are creative and fun yet useful. When I graduated from high school, I could have done without Chicken Soup for the Graduate's Soul or a Class of 2000 beanie baby, ya know? (I hope that doesn't offend anyone.) My favorite gifts were a shower caddy, a suitcase, a little change box labeled "Laundry Fund", and a huge, super-comfy, personalized fleece blanket. I have probably forgotten a few others.

Any ideas for college graduation, too?

all the ones you named are great ideas. I loved the shower caddy I got stuffed with bathroom stuff. You could get one of those bulletin boards where you slip pics between the ribbons with pictures of their favorite niece of course! (if that applies of course) or tupperware stuffed with spices and stuff they'll need for their first adventures in cooking if they'll be in cooking dorms.

My baby sister's going to BYU-I next year and is from Arkansas so I'm probably just going to be getting her winter clothes!!! She doesn't have the necessary supplies to survive Rexburg!

Ooo, I like those ideas. I know that my parents just got USB drives for two of my cousins. The nice thing about that kind of gift is that the price range is so versatile...$19.99 to $75.

Great post...I'm all about it since my lil bro is graduating this year. Mom does the shower caddy sometimes, and she asks the graduate's mom about what kinds of shampoo, lotion, and other toiletry brands they use. Another idea is office supplies. I have gotten a cute trash can (depending on the college they're going to you can even find one with the logo on it) and stuffing it full of stapler, 3 hole punch, tape, post it notes, etc. I'm having a hard time with a gift my brother would find cool, since I don't think he'd get excited about a shower caddy. So if you have any good guy gift ideas...throw em at me!

Steph--Last year I gave my bro a Best Buy gift card (it had graduation caps on it). Not super creative but always pleases the bro!

P.S. I like the trash can and USB drive ideas!

Cold hard cash was always an awesome gift, and it works for HS and college. I know it is impersonal. For those starting college/leaving home: a bunch of tried and true recipes (hmm... sugar and spice cookbook, perhaps?) are great. I always appreciated that my mom bought my first groceries.

I know what you mean regarding books you just end up never reading and giving away. Essential Survival Guide to Living on Your Own is different. This book is very fun and practical. Topics include things like: how to do laundry, how to budget, how to go to plan meals, how to choose a doctor, and how to resolve roommate issues. It's the kind of book that you use again and again, so it makes a great gift.
