I'm Lost without Lost

Okay, I know there are at least a couple of you out there who are LOST fans, and I just have to say, that was a CrAzY season finale! The Others were practically all taken down in like one episode. I wonder what plot they are going to take on next?? And are they starting to do flash-forwards instead of flashbacks? How wild is that? This show is just amazing. Anyway, let me know what your comments are about this. Let's have a little discussion.

I love that show! When Hurley showed up with the van on the beach, I was practically cheering. One weird thing from the flash forward was that Jack referred to his dad as if he was alive. Maybe Jack's dad is Jacob? Also, Jack loves Kate, but kisses Juliet? Crazy. And where the heck did Walt come from? And who's on that boat? What's Locke's deal? I was looking forward to the finale since I'd seen a few interviews with Lost people who said the finale should answer a lot of questions and should be very satisfying, but now I'm more confused than ever!

PRACTICALLY cheering when Hurley showed up? I really WAS cheering! Luckily I didn't wake up my girls! I'm hesitant about delving into the world of flash forwards--that just seems depressing. As for Jack and Juliette, she initiated that kiss. My guess is that Jack was just needin' some lovin' from somebody, so he took it (although I do think he has at least a crush on Juliette). I'm TOTALLY clueless about Jacob, but I definitely don't think he's Jack's dad. Do you think the real Dharma Initiative people might be on the boat?

That IS weird that Jack implied his dad was alive--I didn't think about that one before! After the Jacob episode was on, the news down here showed a slowed-down clip of the part when John shines the flashlight and ticks Jacob off, and when it's slowed down you can actually see a man sitting in the chair! Did you guys catch that? I thought it was crazy. Also, my theory on the Walt thing is that it has something to do with that smoke machine that delves into everyone's memories. Somehow it can recreate their haunting memories by manifesting people and things, like Kate's black horse, Jack's dad, etc. Maybe Jacob is in charge of the smoke machine and worked out the Walt thing so that John wouldn't kill himself, because Jacob wants John to "help him." Nonetheless, I also think that Michael and Walt will be coming back into the plot sometime in the future. (Like Ben would really let them leave the island!) Anyway, I think Juliet might still be a bad guy. And I was also surprised that John could kill Naomi so easily but not Jack or his evil father. Maybe Walt told him to kill Naomi? And of course, I know we're probably all sad about Charlie. :*(

Hurley! Hurley! I was totally cheering when he showed up!
I've almost given up trying to figure this show out. The more I watch it the more questions I have!
Who's funeral was it in the flash-forward? My guess is that it was Sawyer.
One theory about the flash-forward is that it opens up a new story line where they're trying to get back on the island. Who knows?
Is Charlie really dead?!?! I really didn't want him to die so I'm secretly holding out that he'll somehow survive...

I had no idea there were other LOST junkies on this blog. This is awesome.

So many things to comment about... I wonder who really gets saved off of the island - does everyone get taken off? or just those that want to?

I think maybe it is John Locke's funeral - Jack said that no one else attended the viewing. He had no family and obviously ticked people off, so why would they care to go see him.

I was way sad to see Charlie go - but there are only 3 more seasons and I doubt they will bring him back. Interesting about the transmission he received from Penny right before that indicated it wasn't her boat offshore - but Naomi had a picture of Penny and Desmond together. Perhaps it is Penny's dad that owns the boat? In season one or two I had heard that he was part (my guess is only financial) of the Dharma Iniative.

Ben is totally losing control of his people - Richard had said everyone was starting to question him, if Locke had seen Jacob, etc. Plus, when Ben ordered Sayid et all to be shot, Tom didn't do it.

I am trying to figure out if Locke is good or bad. Anyone have insight on that one?

Locke is good, but he definitly has his own agenda. He's following what the island wants him to do (whether it comes in Boone or Walt form).
I don't think Ben told Tom to really shoot those three. Tom wanted to but I think they were told to just shoot into the sand and keep them alive.

Someone else told me that they think that future episodes might be of them trying to get back to the island. I am not so sure of that. There was a lot of things in the flash forward that need to be revealed. Like, why is Jack so miserable, why is Jacks dad supposedly still alive, why was it "a mistake" to leave the island. And of course who was the funeral for and why did no one go to the viewing. So many questions!!!! I think that Ben DID want Tom to shoot the three, but they just didn't follow the order. I do have one question though, Why hasn't Richard (I think that is his name) aged in the last 30 some years. He looks the same as he did when Ben was just a kid.

I feel like I am really missing out!

I love it! We have our own little fan club here!

My theory is that it's Penny's Dad on the boat too. Since Naomi's looking for Desmond but it's not Penny's people it must be her ever-controlling father.

I liked the flash forward-I think referring to his Dad was just part of Jack's having major issues after leaving the island-did you see how everyone kept looking at him like he was crazy when he'd mention his Dad?

I think Richard hasn't aged for the same reason that Locke can heal himself. It's part of the immortality thing. What I want to know about him is why he seems to be indigenous to the island and he helped Ben kill the Dharma people and yet Ben rules over him?

Walt has revealed himself at other weird times just like the horse Kate saw and when Jack saw his Dad. I think it's more of the "smoke" apparitions. Did any of you see the Answers show with the producers? They talked about how the smoke could test you-like when Locke passed and let him live, and how it could create your thoughts and wishes like Walt and the horse.

the other question i have is, I know Locke loves the island and wants to stay but let him stay and let the others leave! Why does EVERYone have to stay in his mind? Why can't he let everyone leave and he stay on his glorious healing island!

And how are we supposed to survive until next fall/winter without more episodes????????????

I agree with the Richard never aging comment. It doesn't make sense. I can't figure out his role yet.

I suspect that Mikhail is also a believer in the island (whatever that means) because we have seen him get killed twice (once with the fence and once in the Looking Glass) and he is healed.

The island seems to be selective about what it heals - Locke is no longer paralyzed from an injury pre-island, Ben couldn't get his tumor healed by the island yet it speeds his recovery (he goes on a long hike within a week or so of being operated on??), Mikhail is healed when we think he is killed but is still missing an eye, Richard doesn't age... but then people like Rose are hinted to have been healed from cancer. For all we know all Rose does is find mangos and refill water bottles.

Last night my hub suggested it was Juliette's funeral... and that no one came because her only living relatives were in the hospital after Jack nearly jumped the bridge!

This rocks!

HURLEY AND THE VAN WAS AWESOME!!!

I can't stand Mikhail!

I was kind of sad when Tom shot!

My husband showed the Jacob scene in slow motion and I had the terrifying experience of seeing him!!!

My hubby thinks it was Sawyer's funeral.

My mother-in-law said that Sun and Jin were behind Jack on the airplane at the beginning of this episode. Not sure what that means.

Too bad we didn't start this conversation earlier this year!

Linz said...

P.S. So many of the Oceanic flight have had a part of someone dying whether intentionally or unintentionally. Are people like Locke and Rose "healed" because they didn't have a hand in someone dying?

I know I am leaving too many comments. About whose funeral it was... my husband's coworker has HD and Tivo so he slow-motioned and zoomed the scene where they show the obituary:

"The body of John Latham of NY was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft. Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be hed at the Hoffs-Drawler Funeral Home tomorrow evening."

Take it for what it is worth! My guess is that producers know there are LOST fanatics out there who would do this kind of thing - so perhaps John Latham or whoever is in the casket is a character that we haven't met yet!

Cramster, you are AWESOME! Thanks for including the obit. I was thinking it was Locke's funeral.

I noticed Sun and Jin behind Jack on the plane too, and I thought it was odd that they didn't speak to each other (although I guess they could have at some point during the flight and just not show it).

How old is Jack supposed to be on the island? I'm curious how far forward they flashed, since one of the news reports of him saving the mom and son said he was 40.

I like Linz's theory of Rose and Locke being healed because they hadn't had a hand in someone dying. However, Locke helped Sawyer kill Locke's dad, but then Locke was re-healed in the mass grave after Ben shot him and he couldn't walk. So, I guess maybe I just shot down that theory (sorry--that bad pun unfortunately was intended)!

PS: Has anyone tried to watch The Santa Clause 2 or 3 since Juliet came onto Lost? I wanted to at Christmas, but I just couldn't see Juliet as Mrs. Claus! :)

Unknown said...

PPS: Okay, my bad. My husband is re-watching the finale online right now, and it was NOT Sun and Jin behind Jack on the plane--just an Asian couple.

Also, he just watched a few things on YouTube. A few were showing Jacob in the cabin with Locke and Ben-yikes! Two posts played the scene backwards where Carl was being brainwashed, and Sawyer, Kate and Alex were saving him. When played backwards, the movie he was watching said, "Only fools are enslaved by time and space." Interesting, considering Desmond as well as all the flashbacks and flash forwards...not to mention who knows what else the producers will throw at us!

Laura, I think that was my bad.

I thought it was so cool when the actress from Santa Clause 2 was chosen to be on Lost but it was a little strange when seeing SC3. I think she has been an EXCELLENT addition to the show.

Kudos to Cramster and Laura for those extra tidbits! That's freakin' sweet!

Rural Dee said...

I didn't know that actress was Mrs. Claus! I just knew her as Trinity from The Matrix. (Yes, I know it's rated R, which is probably why you good people did not also recognize her from there, but it was a long time ago and before I was a member of the church!) Anyway, I am so glad to hear so many great insights. There is too much to even begin to write back about.

But I do have one thing to add regarding cramster's John Latham comment! Here's an idea: what if John Latham is Michael, who changed his name after returning from the island? He is the only character I can think of who would possibly have a teenage son. And we know there is something weird about Walt, like he carries bad luck with him wherever he goes or whatnot. Anyway, maybe Jack is so bent out of shape about it because he's so obsessed with the island that anyone who reminds him of it makes him want it that much more, even if the person is a big jerk who betrayed him.

kristi said...

She didn't play Trinity, Carrie Ann Moss played that character. Don't worry about seeing that movie, I saw the first one too. I went through a phase were I would watch Rated R movies. I didn't see the last 2 matrix because by then I had stopped watching R rated :)

Rural Dee said...

Ok, now I feel dumb. Well, she LOOKS like Trinity. :)

Liz said...

tagteam03, I was reading your comment and thinking, you're right, she totally looks like Trinity so I can see where you'd think that! I looked her up and Santa Clause 2 was her only real big movie but she was on ER for a while and now I remember that. Sorry, I'm such a nerd!

Ah, Liz&Meg, I'm a nerd too, because I've never seen Santa Clause 2 or 3--I only knew she was in them because I LOVE imdb.com, and wanted to learn more about Juliet after she'd been on a few episodes.

I know I emailed this to a few of you, but in case anyone else is still checking this post, my husband's friend pointed out that Hoffs-Drawler (the name of the funeral home) rearranged spells "flash-forward." His friend also said he Googled it or something, and Hoffs-Drawler actually is a new apartment complex in LA, but it won't be finished for a couple years. Random, but a fun fact nonetheless.
