Cool Mist Humidifiers

Boring post alert!

Do you love your cool mist humidifier? If so, which one do you own? I really want to use mine but admittedly, we usually don't because it requires very regular cleanings with vinegar and bleach. But maybe that's typical (???) and we just need to stop being lazy about it. It's just hard to find the time to do it. If you have a great, low maintenance one, please let me know!

I have the same exact problem. I don't really know how to clean it or how often I should so I just don't use it. I used it once a long time ago when my baby was sick. Now it just sits up in the closet intimidating me.

I think it depends a lot on what kind of water you put in it. The harder the water, the more cleaning one has to do.

That said, I am lazy and just keep using mine. It hasn't got that dirty.

They all have to be cleaned regularly but Cramster's right in that depending on your water and your model, it may be more or less often. Be warned, cleaning with vinegar is effective but made my home smell nasty! :)

We clean ours probably once a month and we have a basic Holmes humidifier. I have found that I have to do the bleach/vinegar much less if i rinse it out everyday.

Where does everyone use their humidifiers? Baby's room, living room, do you have more than one? Since I don't currently have one, I don't know the difference it can make. How has it helped you?

I didn't even know that you had to clean it. WE just change the filter when it gets gross.

usually you have to change the filter and clean it but do what your directions tell you!

we use one in the baby's room and one in my room. it helps the baby (she's starting hers tonight-she's stuffy this morning and coughed during the night last night) and I use one for my voice

so what are the benefits to a cool mist over a warm mist one? I also use my humidifier (warm) when I have a chest cold. My hubby had never used one until we married. I just clean mine (with vinegar) when I'm ready to put it away after using it for a cold (usually 3-5 days).

They both work fine but a cool mist is easier-warm mist REQUIRES warm water. Also, warm mist can burn if it's too warm so with kids, it's best to always use cool. I found this article that explains it better.

I just use it in the babe's room. I personally don't like how it makes the room feel so I never sleep with one.

My doctors have told me before to keep one in whatever room she's in when she's sick. I didn't do it even though it's a great suggestion.

It would be a good idea if you will also learn how long it takes for a HVAC system to be installed in your home. Find more interesting information about humidity controllers here.
