Young women activities
Sorry, I know this isn't really anything domestic, but I thought you guys would probably have some great ideas. I'm the beehive counselor in our ward, and I need ideas for activities that are fun but purposeful as well. I just want the girls to really enjoy coming to activity nights and feel like it's worth their time. Please share any fun ideas you have!

One of my favorite activities that we did in young women's was a sound scavanger hunt. A few leaders brought hand-held tape recorders and they gave us a list of a bunch of sounds we had to record. The team who had the most at the end of the night won.
There were easy things like popcorn popping, car horn honking, but then there were some like a Wal-mart employee saying Wal-mart's slogan at the time (I don't remember what it was anymore.)
I did this activity in a singles ward for an FHE activity and I think everyone really enjoyed it!
Service, service, service! Whether it was collecting and delivering clothes for a battered women's shelter or tying baby blankets for a hospital or serving at a soup kitchen, those were always the most memorable and meaningful to me.
COMBINED activities with the boys!! Hee, hee! I always loved those. The ettiquette dinner was a blast.
When I served in YW we had a small group so we usually did things all together. One of my favorite things that we would do was "kidnap" the next beehive right before they turned 12. Sometimes we did it on the normal activity night and arranged it with the girls' parents. We usually went and had dessert at Bakers Square or breakfast on a Saturday morning. It's always fun to surprise people.
In the summer we did a Book of Mormon read-a-thon. The goal was to finish it by the end of the summer. We ended it with kind of a lock-in where the girls finished reading it together, played games, and bore testimonies. Great way to feel empowered for a new school year.
I agree that service ends up being the most fun and meaningful. Our YW president scheduled to have the girls visit with residents of a nursing home. For some reason we were listed as a musical event. We found that out once we got there. So we sang hymns, patriotic songs, and songs from "The Sound of Music". The residents loved it. It was really fun.
Thanks, guys for the great ideas!
I might be a little late on this post, but I am the MiaMaid advisor for our ward and have had a lot of fun planning the activities with the girls. We really try to encourage THEM to do the planning-since the activities are for them. This last planning session they came up with some really great ideas;
1) Have a career night. They chose to have a cosmetologist, a therapist and a interior design pannel. We found people in our ward or friends that worked in these fields.
2) Recipe night. Have the girls bring their favorite recipes and then make one of them.
3) We schedule baptisms for the dead on a quarterly basis.
4) Combined Jepoardy contest with the YM
5) Cake walk. have the YM/YW frost cakes together and then have them do a cake walk to win the cakes.
6) Sports night. We scheduled the gym and played basketball and then played volleyball
7) We are going to make magnent boards next week.
8) Bring cookies or food to new or expecting mommies
9) Make quilts for new or expecting mommies
10) Host a "Date night" for adults. Tell them to bring their kids to the church on mutual night for them to go out to eat or to the temple
11) In the spring/summer we have a car wash
12) Make homemade cards
These are just some ideas. I hope some have helped! Good Luck!!
We painted someone's house for them. They were getting a divorce and we decided to do an Extreme Home Make-Over! We took down all the wallpaper, painted the walls, refinished the floor, made picture frames and bought new bedding and decorations. We listened to music while we did it. It was one of the most fun I've had in the Young Womens Program!!!
