We are taking my almost 6-month old on a road trip to warmer weather. Any tips? I am a little worried about how well she will do in the car, does it normally mess up their sleep cycle if she sleeps extra in the car? She also has never slept in the pack 'n' play, is that a big change from sleeping in her crib? Any words of advice to make our trip go smoother would be great!

Traveling tips?
We are taking my almost 6-month old on a road trip to warmer weather. Any tips? I am a little worried about how well she will do in the car, does it normally mess up their sleep cycle if she sleeps extra in the car? She also has never slept in the pack 'n' play, is that a big change from sleeping in her crib? Any words of advice to make our trip go smoother would be great!

I have worried before every road trip and it has all worked out really well. V never had a problem with the pack n play but when possible we brought her fisher-price mobile along. R will probably sleep most of the way...the vibrations of the car just do that. She will probably also sleep as much during the night as she usually does. Liz&Meg advised me once that babies are tired after road trips just like we are, and it's true. Sometimes v would just go to bed a little later than usual. Even if you have an off night, she'll probably be back to normal in a day or two. Traveling does throw things off a bit, but it always goes back to normal.
I don't have much advice, but just wanted to say that I'm so glad you are going Katie! It will be so nice for you to get out. Skyler does pretty well in her pack n play when we go to one of our parents. Sometimes she sleeps a little more restless than usual, but she'll usually go back to sleep even if she wakes up.
p.s. When we drove from Minneapolis to Texas (we stretched it out over a few days), one thing that helped us get some extra miles in was NTG's laptop and a baby Einstein DVD. I propped it up on my arm on her lap. I don't think you'll need it for this trip, but just wanted to throw that out there for anyone doing a super long trip in the future.
Linz already said my main thing-they sleep all day in the car and then still sleep that night, miraculously! With our baby, we found that driving through the night (we do a lot of LONG trips) works well for us because then she's guaranteed to sleep!
The only thing that I can think of is that with the pack n play. One possible problem she may have is that the little pad on the pack n play is a lot thinner then the nice crib mattress. If it is a problem you could always lay a blanket on the pad to make it more comfy. So, I am nosy. Where are you guys going? :)
Thanks for the help! I feel a bit more at ease now. Oh, and we are going to North Carolina to surprise my Grandma for her birthday!

ps, breastfeeding in the car hurts
any ideas for older babies? we're going to utah in two weeks and the long day after the long night may be too much for her! Any fun ideas to keep her occupied when she is awake?
also, another thing I remembered when M was littler-sitting in the backseat was actually not worth it. She slept better when i was in the front seat and was less distracted. i only got in back when she needed attention and play time.
