Baby Must-haves

Katie's post on unique shower gifts got me thinking...what are the baby items you couldn't live without, or just absolutely love? For instance, I absolutely love our baby monitor. It's the Angelcare Movement sensor. It was kind of pricey, but it's a motion sensor, along with noise. It goes underneath the matteress, and if it doesn't detect movement (including breathing) for 20 seconds, the alarm goes off. I might be a bit on the paranoid side, since I am accustomed to seing babies turn blue and stop breathing at work on a regular basis....but it brought me sooo much peace of mind when Skyler was little. I could fall asleep easily, without worrying that she wasn't breathing in her cradle! As far as smaller items, I got some little slippers from a friend that I also loved, because they velcro on, and don't fall off like all socks seem to! They say "Thank Heaven for Little Girls (or Boys), and can be found at Wal- mart. Anyway, I thought it would be cool to hear what kinds of things you guys couldn't live without, for shower gifts, or for my own sake. I am especially interested to hear about items for older babies!

I loved M's little slippers too! She got some of the Robeez shoes that don't come off for a present and I've heard the Target brand is just as good...and cheaper! We borrowed a swing from someone and we're going to buy one with our next baby because that was the only way I could cook dinner when M was really little! I also loved her bjorn. We got one used so it didn't cost a ton, but I would put her in it and do housework and walk around the neighborhood and Target and she would be close and warm!

Now that she's older, her mesh feeder bag (put bigger food in the bag and they just chomp on it-great for apples and stuff like that) and homemade food grinder were wonderful. I was always tempted by the exersaucers and stuff like that but never got one, so I'd love to hear from someone who has one.

CAMERAS! We always have our still camera and video camera ready to go and use both all the time!

Activity Mat, Bjorn, burp cloths (they have pretty colors at babies r us), and stroller have been must-haves for us. Sorry--nothing original!

And Water! I'm drinking it all the time and usually won't leave home without a waterbottle. I haven't been able to get enough since v was born.

p.s. that monitor sounds really terrific--I had never heard of that.

My first LOVED her exersaucer, but the second couldn't have cared less. However, it was vice-versa for the swing. Both of my girls loved their Robeez, too. However, my number one favorite toy is the Busy Ball Popper by Playskool. We got it for the older one soon after the baby was born (they're 2 years apart), but I was amazed how quickly the little one took an interest in it! It's one of the few toys they can play with together!

My must have item was our Boppy! I ended up having a c-section and it really helped me with nursing and just holding Bauer! My husband even said that it was his favorite thing, too. He liked to hold Bauer on the Boppy and play video games or do stuff on the computer at night while I slept.

Also, Baby Einstein DVD's! I don't think I would ever get anything done around the house if it wasn't for those. I tried to fold laundry with Bauer in the room today and let's just say most of it ended up on the floor so I gave up and left the rest for after he was in bed.

Oh, and Bauer did love his exersaucer and still plays with it although he doesn't like to be in it anymore, just standing on the outside. He also LOVED his doorway jumper. It was the Jump & Go by Evenflo. He would jump in it forever and even fell asleep in it one time!

Here are my favorite things thus far in the first three months with Collin:

1. His swing. It's the only thing he'll sleep in when he takes naps during the day.

2. Cloth diapers. I don't use them as diapers, though--I use them for burp cloths. Collin drips milk all over the place when I nurse him, so I stick one under his chin like a bib and then put the rest over me so it doesn't leak all down my stomach.

3. Those waterproof mats that you can lay over your changing pad. When Collin has smaller accidents, it's way easier to just change that instead of the whole changing pad cover.

4. Activity Mat. It's kept him occupied for over an hour straight before!

5. Breastfeeding cover. I got mine at www.modestmommycover.com. It goes around your neck so it doesn't fall down like blankets sometimes do, and it also poofs out so you can look down and see what's going on.

6. Sleep sack, aka the wearable blanket. This is the greatest invention ever, because I don't have to worry about Collin tossing his blanket over his head accidentally.

I could go on, but then I might as well start a whole new blog about it. ;)

We bought an exersaucer when Briley was only 4 months old thinking she was way too young for it. But we put her in it and she loves it! Now that she's a little older she still thinks its great. It has lots of toys to keep her occupied and she can jump in it almost as much as a Jonny Jumper. Make sure you get one that has a little snack tray on it. We put cheerios and her sippie cup in it so she can play and munch at the same time. She loves it - I would highly recomment it.
