Boring Mom

I have a very active 17-month old son and I run out of ideas of things to do with him all day. He's too young for coloring and if I take him out anywhere he just wants to run so I think any kind of museum would be a waste of time. I need some tips on things to keep him happy and busy. Please help!

You guys will be glad when the weather gets warm and you can let him run in a park, run through a sprinkler, or swim at a pool! I wish I had suggestions...I still have an immobile baby. Do playgroups help?

I have an eighteen month old daughter and she just loves to play with other kids. I love the days when I can get together with a couple other moms and chat while our kids play!

Here are some ideas from babycenter.com:

- "Make playdough, then play with it (many recipes on the net, try 2 parts oatmeal, 1 part flour, 1 part water)
- Fingerpainting
- Extra bath time to play in the water
- Blow bubbles

Also check for activities in your area. Our library has a story/song time for babies, and the mall has a music program. If the weather is nice, try a trip to the park. Take a ball.

One thing I've found as a big help for messy things, is a cheap shower curtain liner (from the dollar store). I put it on the floor, and let the boys make a mess!

Also, don't feel like you have to entertain her the whole time. She needs some time to entertain herself, and she will, if you provide her with toys."

Thanks stacibee, those are some really great ideas! I've just felt at a loss lately and feel like I've been relying on Baby Einstein a lot to fill in the gaps.

I have another easy idea from teaching early childhood music. Put on some music and dance! Mix it up by turning it into Move and Freeze. When you pause the music dramatically freeze then dance again when you press play.
