I love carbs.

What do you do to curb your cravings? What strategies do you have to maintain self-control in the eating department?

For me, it's all about moderation. I tend to be an all or nuthin' kind of girl, so if I'm able to control my portions and still have some of whatever's being served without trying to cut it out of my diet completely, I do just fine. The Word of Wisdom really is an awesome resource to go by!!

I have a few little tricks up my sleeve that worked pretty well for me, especially in college. I haven't been as careful since I got married and had a baby, but I want to start being better again. First, at meals I always save my carb item to eat last since it leaves me feeling the most satisfied. For example: 1. salad 2. meat 3. roll. Second, if I need a snack during the day, I'll eat something high protein like cottage cheese or low-fat string cheese and follow it up with one or two pretzels rather than eating a whole snack of pretzels. Finally, I keep a box of Quaker Crunchy Corn Bran on hand (I've only found them at Target around here). Quaker Oatmeal Squares are pretty good too. If I just need a quick carb fix during the day, I'd rather it be kind of healthy. Most high fiber cereals you wouldn't want to eat plain, but these are actually pretty good plain. I'll just grab a handful, eat them slowly, and I'm usually satisfied. Some days, of course, I just go hog wild and eat whatever I want. I hope these don't make me sound crazy.

I am currently doing Weight Watchers. And I must say, that I actually really like it. I have lost about 15 pounds already.

Like stacibee, I don't cut anything out of my diet completely. That way I don't crave, crave, crave and then binge. I really enjoy carbs, and don't really cut them out too much. I just tell myself that if I am going to eat a lot of carbs then I need to go running to burn them. I love running, so it ends up being a win-win system most of the time. My struggle is normally with chocolate, anyone have tips on that?

I don't know about carbs, but I have a major sweet tooth that I need to control! (You know that, Linz) I find that there are certain things that I can't even bring into the house because I know that's what I'll choose to snack on. That way, I don't feel as guilty when I do pig-out on something if we go out or are at a party because I know I don't do it every day.
Also, drink water. A lot of times you think you're hungry but you're actually just thirsty.
I should probably follow this advice myself....

Drinking a lot of water helps me as has been suggested. Chocolate is hard! We had a bowl of chocolates out around Valentine's Day and it was impossible not to much on them as you passed!!! I'm trying to restrict myself to really good desserts only on the weekend. If I feel really snacky at night, Smart Pop 100 calorie packs Kettle Corn flavor really help me. During the day I try to make my snacks have protein in them like Bethany said. String cheese, yogurt, non-trans fat peanut better on a banana. Thanks for all of these awesome tips everyone!

I chew gum...sound kinda wierd, but it helps me stay out of the cupboards and to not eat things I don't reaaly need.

One of my favorite things to help with the sweet tooth is Snack Wells Devil Food Cake cookies. They only have like 0.5 grams of fat in each cookie, and I personally think they're really good. They're chewy, and chocolate, so they totally satisfy me when I have the munchies for something sweet. Both Meijer and Wal-mart have their own cheaper brand of it as well.

Whenever I get a craving for something sweet like chocolate, I try to eat fruit or honey instead. Honey especially works for me, on a nice warm piece of bread (whole wheat, double-fiber bread, of course . . . ha ha ha). I also like granola bars--Nature Valley is the best brand because there are no partially hydrogenated oils.

And like Katie Brooks, I try to make up for extra carb intake by exercising it off. Then it doesn't matter how many carbs you have!
