Carseat craze!

Hi ladies!
Our little one is too long for her carrier but too little to go forward facing. We need a new carseat but our life is complicated! Her Dad takes her to the babysitter, the babysitter takes her in the car while she drives her own daughter to school, and I pick up and drive her around the rest of the week! With the carrier, it's easy-clicking into stationary bases and buckling it in. But with bigger carseats, they're harder to move around and I'm a stickler for having them installed correctly. So I'm worried we'll have to buy up to three carseats which seems so crazy for one kid! Besides the fact that we can't afford it! Any ideas?

I know it may not be the ideal way to go, but for my niece and nephew, everyone in the family bought carseats to tote them around. But we bought them from garage sales (between $5-$15), or got them from people we knew. Then their mother bought a new one (since she drove them 95% of the time). I guess it may not have been the safest getting used carseats, (we only got ones in great condition) but the kids didn't ride with us all that much, so the carseats didn't need tons of life left in them. Plus that way all of us had the seats installed correctly and no one had to move them around.

I heard a mother at church saying that she needed to by her 8 month old a new kind of rear facing seat because she was so long her feet were touching the car seat. I have no idea where the idea came from that this shouldn't happen. There is absolutely nothing unsafe about your baby's legs being so long that their feet touch the seat of the car. Until they are a year old and twenty pounds I can't think of a reason why you should need a new car seat.

I got a new car seat for my little boy and put him in it before he was one. Its a convertable carseat so you can still put it rear facing until they are ready for forward facing. I really love it. And it has all sorts of cute colors and stuff. Its pretty pricey though. But its the safest car seat on the market. Its really not hard to install either. We've had to change it to different cars quite a few times and its way easy. Its the Britax Roundabout carseat. Goodluck!

Joni, the problem is that it's not just her feet, it's her head. You're right, it's okay for the feet to dangle, but if they're head is level with the top of the carseat then it's not safe anymore. So unfortunately, she's just too long all over! Thanks for the ideas guys!
